Another great Christmas Party. Great potluck food, caroling and fellowship. Have a Merry Christmas!
On one side Jesus is kind, compassionate and patient. On the other, He is turning over tables, and using a whip.
Do WE know when to do what? What side of Jesus do we imitate with all the different people and circumstances?
We are not a works-based religion. Then why, after being saved from hell (by simple belief and surrender) do we then WORK so hard to be a Christian? Did our works get us saved? No. Are our works then going to give us victory as Christians? No. “NOT by effort, NOT by Power, but by MY SPIRIT, says the Lord.”
We are to take HIS burden upon us and He says it is LIGHT. Is walking the Christian walk LIGHT work? Well, maybe we are picking up the WRONG burden-“the burden of TRYING.”
There is a difference between trying to imitate Jesus and actually becoming like Him.
How do we make this change?
Jesus says to “COME TO ME.” Is He merely talking about salvation? No. He wants us to come and learn from HIM. Jesus is actually alive. The Word leads us to Him, reveals His character, sets us on the right path. But there is MORE. There is a real Person waiting to commune with us.
Jesus said that Mary had chosen the BEST thing to DO, and that was sitting at His feet and LISTENING to everything He was saying.
REST at His feet and LISTEN to Him. Come to Jesus so HE can CHANGE you into His image. This is a spiritual act; it is not something WE can do. All we do is show up.
Come to Jesus DAILY and read His Word for the purpose of HEARING Him, NOT to get through a reading program; studying and reading through the Bible is fine, but only in addition to listening for Him in His Word. Reading programs are not the power to change you into the likeness of Jesus; JESUS is the power.
Keep coming, no matter what. THIS is the work we MUST do. We will NATURALLY become like Him out of the overflow of RELATIONSHIP.
If we aren’t actively in RELATIONSHIP with Jesus but keep DOING our Christian DUTIES-we are being RELIGIOUS and are POWERLESS. We then TRY to be like Jesus but we look ridiculous and fail. However, when in relationship, we get taught by Him very specifically to our circumstances, He changes our hearts for people and we start behaving differently, and you know what?, you will look suspiciously a lot like Jesus WITHOUT EFFORT. You will live a life of POWER and VICTORY when you submit yourself to His teachings, daily. Obeying God on other issues of your life will be LIGHT and JOYFUL. You will look so strange to the world.
Give up. Stop trying. REST in Him.
This is a lying generation.
We largely get our idea of “good living” from the media.
The alcohol commercials where everyone is having a blast and flirting are only actors on a set, getting paid to sell you the idea of blissful living that they can’t even afford to live! It is an illusion.
The commercials don’t show the aftereffects of too much alcohol…that isn’t too glamorous!
The famous actors have big homes, Starbucks daily, sweet cars, even a jet…but they still have the same basic needs we have that are not so glamorous. They sneeze and get snot on them like anyone else! But T.V. paints a different picture.
Models are airbrushed. There is not only one kind of beautiful. Beautiful is frizzy hair and saggy skin, too!
Sexiness is NOT a man or woman who is willing to go on television and show what they got. It ought not to be sexy for us to see what should be reserved for the married couple in their bedroom before God.
Excitement is NOT flirting with someone else’s spouse and then sleeping together!
Romance is NOT limited to isolate moments of colossal importance, like proposals, weddings, first dates, etc.; romance is the married couple who through all of life’s many boring changes is sticking it out. How do you write a movie about that? It would be boring.
The works of the enemy over our world causes confusion as to the source of happiness and fulfillment. “The wicked strut about, and evil is PRAISED throughout the land.” The “land” proclaims to us what is beautiful, valuable, sexy, exciting.
The world is LYING to us. What it says will fulfill you, wont. What it says will bring the feeling of success, wont.
The wicked do evil and laugh and applaud themselves for what they did.
There is nothing funny about disobeying God.
“Blessed are those who FEAR to do wrong, but the STUBBORN are headed for serious trouble.” Proverbs 28:14
“They” “strut about” in the pride of life, consuming whatever they wish and lying about their enjoyment. No one has fun and fulfillment ALL of the time, forever, if they are honest about it. Why do we keep seeing so many successful people making horrible choices and destroying their lives? Why, as Christians, do we keep hearing the same story of people not being fulfilled by that kind of living? Because it sucks! Sin will destroy your life.
“Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.” Psalm 12:7,8
Sin is so alluring. It presses in on us from every side. It is oppressive! But God will protect us. He will give us right understanding and discernment. He will help us LOVE righteousness and FEAR to do evil. He will equip you with joy and power as you obey His commands. To have this protection, though, you must do your part! Hang out with Jesus. Accept His correction. Let Him remake your heart and mind. Come daily to the feet of Jesus and learn of Him. He will equip you. Your strength is not enough to keep you from the pull of this world. You need His strength. Strength will grow only in His presence.
“Whoever REFUSES to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.” Proverbs 29:1
Don’t let sin destroy your life. Start with this one thing: Hang out and listen to Jesus from His word and be still in His presence, every day. He will protect you and preserve you.
