People misquote this scripture all the time, “God will not put more on you than you can handle”. The scripture actually says, “There is no temptation that has taken you that is uncommon to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be TEMPTED above which you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” This means that no true believer need to fall into sin because of temptation. God gives you adequate GRACE to overcome every temptation and resist sin. The true story of suffering is found in 2 Cor 1:8 “We would not have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were PRESSED OUT OF MEASURE, ABOVE STRENGTH, insomuch that we DESPAIRED even OF LIFE”. The truth is that a faithful believer, living in obedient fellowship to Christ and loved by Him, may yet undergo experiences that involve danger, fear and despair, and may encounter experiences that weigh one down beyond the human power of endurance. If you are pressed beyond measure, God has not forsaken you. He has not forgotten you. Sufferings come to all those in Christ. Allow Jesus to come near. Look to Him in faith. He gives more GRACE. He will see you through to victory. The truer statement would be, “God never puts more on you than HE CAN HANDLE.” He walks through the fiery furnace with you. You will come out victorious!
SHAME IS UNDIAGNOSED CANCER THAT EATS AND EATS AT YOU UNTIL YOU ARE CONSUMED. Is guilt and shame from your past eating you up? Are you carrying around that heavy load tirelessly and needlessly? Let me tell you a story. I was molested the first time when I was age nine by a 25 year old drunken man. From there, my life spiraled out of control. I didn’t realize that I had been carrying around shame from that until my own daughter was 9. We were driving somewhere singing and the Lord spoke to me, “Crystal, look at your daughter. She is young and innocent and she is 9.” I wasn’t getting it. He continued, “that’s how old you were when you were molested.” And I broke down crying. I didn’t even realize it until that very moment that I thought it was my fault. I had been carrying that shame for about 30 years. Now, right at this same time was our first women’s retreat. I had bought a white stone for every lady because the Lord had given me this scripture,”To him that overcomes, will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows except he that receives it.” Rev 2:17 That year God gave me the name “Purity”. This name spoke DIRECTLY to the guilt and shame I had carried around for so long. “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” Psalms 51:7 So I ask you, what “cancer” are you carrying around? Maybe you are secure in what GOD has CALLED you, but if you still struggle with your past identity, let Him WASH YOU WHITER THAN SNOW. Are you letting your past have ANY control over you? Come seek grace at the altar of His cleansing forgiveness. Let Him ERASE all the guilt and shame- He longs to give you a NEW NAME. And next time that old devil tries to throw those lies back in your face, tell him “You have me confused with someone else. Go back to hell you liar!”
