“Challenge Yourself or Brace Yourself”

I Corinthians 9:24-27

I Corinthians 9:24-27: Boxers/Runners Train!

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

  • Your Task?? …. Challenge (train) yourself!

Romans 8:13 – “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit

do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

Psalms 37:23-24 – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he

delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord

upholdeth him with His hand.”

Hebrews 12:11-13 – “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but

grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto

them which are exercised thereby.  Wherefore, lift up the hands which hang down,

and the feeble knees; and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be

turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.”

II Timothy 2:1-5 – “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ

Jesus.  And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same

commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore

endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  No man that warreth entangleth

himself with the affairs of this life; that he many please him who has chosen him to

be a soldier.  And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, accept he

strive lawfully.”

  • Brace Yourself (but we don’t)

Matthew 7:24-29 – “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.  And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

Matthew 24: 37-39 – “But as the days of No’e were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that No’e entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

I Corinthians 10:21-22 – “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?”

There is a saying that ….. “You can’t defeat the demons you enjoy playing with”

Matthew 12:43-45 – “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh

through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.  Then he sayeth, I will return into

my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept,

and garnished.  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more

wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that

man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
