What The Bible Says About Racism

Bible says about Racism

What does the BIBLE say about racism?

By: Deacon Michael Dunham

The Bible is clear how GOD feels about humans; we are all created in his image. What the world believes about humans and outward skin color is completely against what GOD has said about his creations. Racism is sin against GOD. Disliking, pre-judging, hating, or otherwise dividing people that GOD created in his own image is hating GOD and his perfect plan. If anyone does anything to my children, it is worse than them doing it to me. Think about that, if we are all GODs children, then hating some of his children just because of how they look is an insult to GOD.

Gen 1:26

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [h]moves on the earth.”

He breathed life into man, that life that was breathed into Adam is still alive in all men, women and children.

Gen 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

When GOD punished Adam and Eve we see GOD spoke to then about their children. We are all decedents of Adam and Eve. There is ONE race the HUMAN race!

Gen 3:16

16 To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be [e]for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”

We are all equally dirt in the eyes of GOD. He knows where we came from, the dust, and he told us when we die we will return to the dust!

Gen 3:17

17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall [f]bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. return to the ground, For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

Jonah teaches us that people can be called of GOD, anointed to preach his gospel, and still not have their heart right towards other human beings. Jonah was told to go to Nineveh. He refused, then, later when he did go, and they repented and turned toward the LORD, Jonah was mad because GOD gave him the SAME word for the Ninevites that he gave to “his people in his country”.

Bible says about Racism

Jonah’s Anger and God’s Kindness

Jonah 4:4

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. So he prayed to the Lord, and said, “Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm. Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!”

Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “It is right for me to be angry, even to death!”

10 But the Lord said, “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which [c]came up in a night and perished in a night. 11 And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left—and much livestock?”

It is important to remember GOD is Spirit.

John 4:24

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 6:63

 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life

Do not believe the false doctrine that humans are formed of different “races”. We are not in competition for GOD’s love. He loves us all equally. What will you teach your household about the lies of racism and prejudice?

Joshua 24:15

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of [a]the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Racism is a set of believes that are contrary to GOD’s word that many, many people have believed to be facts above GOD’s word. A quick look at GOD’s unchanging word will show that

First we have to define racism. Before we can saw what the Bible says about racism, we have to define a few terms.

The dictionary defines the word, “racism” as;

1. Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.

2. The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

The dictionary defines the word, “prejudice” as;

1. Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

2. Dislike, hostility, or unjust behavior deriving from unfounded opinions.

3. Harm or injury that results or may result from some action or judgement.

4. Give rise to prejudice in someone, make biased.

Racism is a choice. It is a choice to believe in a system and a separate definition of the word “race” than what GOD has defined as “race”. In fact the word “race” in English is so convoluted that it has two very different, distinct definitions for it.

  1. A competition between runners, horses, vehicles, boats, etc., to see which is the fastest in covering a set course.

The second definition is very different from this definition, or is it?

  • Each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics.
  • The fact or condition of belonging to a racial division or group; the qualities or characteristics associated with this.
  • A group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc; an ethic group
  • A population within a species that is distinct in some way, especially a subspecies. {Why not post species? Meaning after, why sub meaning under? BIAS}
  • A group of people descended from a common ancestor.

How does GOD feel about the difference between Jewish people and those who believe in the circumcision? He says what makes us justified is that we believe! We are to judge people according to what the WORD says, not according to the flesh!

Romans 3 :1-5

God’s Judgment Defended

What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the [a]oracles of God. For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be [b]true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words,
And may overcome when You are judged.”

But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.) Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world?

*No Flesh will be justified in his sight!

Bible says about Racism

All Have Sinned

What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin.

10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.
12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
13 “Their throat is an open [d]tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become [e]guilty before God.

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Jesus settled it all with his sacrifice!

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the [e]offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many [f]offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man’s [g]offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

We are ALL sons of GOD!

Sons and Heirs

Gal 3:26-28

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

What difference does it make who your biological Father and Mother is? We have a heavenly Father who gave us his only begotten Son so we could have the Holy Spirit, The Comforter, and allowed us to be heirs according to the promise! If racism is real, Jesus would not have come so that the entire WORLD might be saved!

After the coming of the Holy Spirit, when they were all filled, the next line says “devout men, from every nation under heaven.” It is clear the new church was focused on the Holy Spirit and not Jewish lineage.

Acts 2:5

And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.

Peter then quoted the prophet Joel saying “God will pour his Spirit on “All Flesh”.

Acts 2:16

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.

James chapter 2 teaches us clearly that favoritism in the flesh is sin against GOD. It doesn’t matter if it is favoritism of rich people and finances or an ethnicity that people have personal favoritism of, it is all sin against GOD.

Beware of Personal Favoritism

James 2 New King James Version (NKJV)

My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partialityFor if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in [a]fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in [b]filthy clothes, and you [c]pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not [d]shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; but if you [e]show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Religious people of the day asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was. He answered in a way that would destroy so many evils, including racism.

The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?

Matthew 22:34-40

34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Loving your neighbor as you love yourself will kill racism as soon as we realize your neighbor is anyone in close proximity to you. Not people close to you who look, talk, and act like you. And even when he gave them a righteous answer, the religious people decided to try to divide again. And Jesus continued and defined for them who their “neighbor was”.

Luke 10:29

29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among [b]thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, [c]when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” 37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Through the sacrifice that Jesus did, he broke down separation. He allowed us to reconcile with GOD, but also to reconcile with each other. Seeking peace and access by ONE Spirit.

Christ Our Peace

Eph 2:14

14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

When you give your life to GOD, hating your Brother is illegal. It is not allowed.

The Imperative of Love

1 John 3:10-15

10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love [c]his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

Racism is a direct disrespect to the sacrifice that Jesus Christ gave with his own life and his own blood. GOD sacrificed Jesus for us all. Who are we to harden our hearts against people GOD said was worthy enough to die for?

 The book of Revelation says that we have ALL been redeemed by the Blood of Jesus. “out of every tribe and tongue”…

Revelation 5:9

And they sang a new song, saying:“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made [d]us kings[e] and priests to our God;
And [
f]we shall reign on the earth.”

Revelation 7:9

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

One of the most clear and direct things GOD said about people was in Acts through the Apostle Peter.

ACTS 10:34 Preaching to Cornelius’ Household 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. 36 The word which God sent to the [l]children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom [m]they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission[n] of sins.”

Ephesians 1:2

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

We are all adopted into one family. We are supposed to be a loving, growing, nurturing family. We cannot do that as unto the LORD if we do it with impartiality because of things in the flesh.

Matthew 22:36-40 New King James Version (NKJV)

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Jesus let us know how we are supposed to show love to one another. If we truly love ourselves we will not condemn ourselves to hell. We should love our neighbors enough to tell them the truth about Jesus the Christ. We cannot allow

Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore the prisoner of the Lord beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4There is on body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all and in you all.

To keep the unity in the bond of peace, as a church we have to go against what the world is doing and teaching.

In the system and environment in which we live where class and race still divide us, how great a testimony is it to show the world that we can overcome the hate and love one another?

The bottom line is people who hate other people for any reason are not full of love and joy. There are no joyful people who just happen to believe their race or skin color makes them a superior person. The scripture is clear on how we see if Christians are walking in GOD’s perfect love and joy.

John 15:9 As the Father Loved me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you that My joy may remain in you, and That your joy may be full. 12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

The very foundation of what we believe, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ was predicted by Jesus and he said it would happen so that the Enemy which is Satan would be cast out and that Jesus will draw ALL people to himself!

John 12:30 -32 Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake 31 Now is the judgement of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to myself.”

It is clear that the Jesus Christ died for ALL people. He wants reconciliation with ALL people, not just one particular race or ethnic group. ALL means ALL.
