AVERSION TO SELF- DENIAL. Paul told the Corinthian church that they received all others preaching a false gospel and he was concerned for their faithfulness, “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!” II Corinthians 11:4
There is another “Jesus” and a different gospel currently being preached- the Jesus who just wants you to be happy, healthy and wealthy. He does not require anything of you but to “love” and “just be nice”. This Jesus appeals to man’s aversion to self-denial. If humanity reveals anything, it’s that we want what we want, we do what we want to do; and we don’t want anyone to tell us any differently. This false gospel appeals to our fleshly wants and desires. It appeals to a wicked heart that wants its own way. It’s cross requires nothing: no death, no devotion, no faithfulness.
Dear saint, this is not THE gospel; but another. The call of the cross is one of self-denial. I am crucified with Christ—yet I live. The cross calls out for the old man to be crucified. Sin must be put to death. We must die with Christ and be raised with Him to newness of life. The cross requires that we identify ourselves with Jesus, going outside the camp, coming out of the world and separating from its darkness to walk in the light. Any gospel that makes someone the victim and another person the oppressor, is not the gospel of Jesus.
The human race is under oppression to sin and death; but the cross breaks the yoke of bondage so that all that go through it may live as victors in a fallen world. Any gospel that does not require sacrifice is not the gospel of Jesus. Any gospel that allows you to continue in sin and inherit eternal life is “another gospel”. Any gospel that preaches you can disobey the Word of God and inherit eternal life is another gospel. As Paul said, “and you allow it!” because of your itching ears and aversion to self-denial.
If your heart is, “Tell me what I want to hear” and “Do not tell me anything that makes me uncomfortable with my life decisions” then woe, woe, woe. This is another gospel and a different spirit. Repent and be reformed. Return to the truth. Go back to the old rugged cross. Walk on the narrow path of redemption. Time is short. #runyourrace
