I WILL GO DOWN WITH YOU. We joke about Abishai all the time in our home, he’s our guy. He’s the loyal friend that’s down for anything and he goes no matter what the cost, “Then David answered, and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul in the camp?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”” I Samuel 26:6
Sure, you might have to hold him back sometimes because he’s a zealous friend who loves you and watches your back against those who despise you. But I would rather have one loyal friend like Abishai than a handful of Judas’s.
A Judas walks with you, but secretly in his heart he is against you. Judas flatters you to your face, but talks about you behind your back. Judas is waiting for a chance to betray you. It seems like more and more Judas’s are popping up in today’s society, waiting for a chance to deliver up to the scoffers. 2 Timothy 3:4 speaks of latter days and perilous times, even among Christians men will be “traitors”. A friend sticks closer than a brother.
Loyalty is a rare trait these days. If you find a loyal friend, they are a uncommon gem. Abishai is not easily offended nor obstinate when corrected. You can have a bad day with Abishai, he’s not leaving your side. In my experience, most people lack discernment in friend choices. Beware those who seek to get close to you through flattery. If they talk bad about others to you and share another’s pain and faults in your ears; then they will share your pain, faults and secrets to others. You are not special. Yeah, Abishai is our guy. If you are blessed enough to have an Abishai in your life, treasure that loyal friend. #runyourrace
