JUST BECAUSE GOD ALLOWS IT, does not mean it is his will. There are a lot of things that God allows in our lives. He allows us to push our own agenda and get our own way. I hear this all the time, “Well, God just wants me to be happy.” Somebody please show me in Scripture where God wants me to go my own way and to just be happy.
I see time and time again in my life and in Scripture that He wants His will to be done and He is perfecting in us the nature and character of Jesus. He is producing obedient sons and daughters, who are to be separated from the world and to be holy as He is holy. This kind of character only comes through the leading of the Spirit and the discipline of the flesh. Jesus told us to pray this way and to not worry about the rest:
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” Matthew 6:10, 33
His way is the high road and sometimes, actually often, the air is thin on that road it is difficult to breathe. Do not get it confused because you are allowed to get your way that God is pleased. Just because He is still talking to you or even using you, He is pleased with you. We only have to look at the life of Saul, Samson, and Judas to see that the Lord is gracious even to the disobedient.
I can name you many who have fallen hard and couldn’t even see it right up to the point of their demise. Make no mistake and do not deceive yourself, we will reap what we sow. Disobedience will bring destruction and God will eventually give us over to what we want. Paul’s letter to the Romans reveals a few things concerning this line of thought: The wrath of God is revealed against those who suppress the truth.
Men who knew God, did not glorify Him as God and professing to be wise they became fools. Therefore, God gave them over to what they wanted: the lust and desires of their heart which in turn produced in them a debased/reprobate mind. (Read Romans 1-2) Paul’s letter to the Thessalonian church reveals a similar concept: those who reject the truth are given over by God to a deluded/reprobate mind. (2 Thes 2)
Take notice, this delusion comes upon those who know the truth, but reject the truth in all or in part. The truth is not just that Jesus is Savior and Lord, but the truth of all Scripture (the great apostasy is a departure from Scriptural truth) that there is a judgment and a literal hell, sin is as God defines it and is an offense against Him. God will give us what we want. If our heart’s desire is to love Him, serve Him and obey Him only, we will eat the fruit of righteousness, joy and peace and life eternal. But if our heart’s desire is our own way, we will eat the fruit of rebellion.
Listen to the Spirit and obey His WILL and His Word and for goodness sake seek wisdom. Don’t deceive yourself into thinking that because you obey in most areas that you are good. Disobedience is never a small thing. It’s the little foxes that spoil the vine. Never forget that a little leaven, leavens the whole lump. A little folly makes you a fool. The enemy only needs a crack. Father, I pray Your will be done in our lives and in this world. Let us die to our selfish wants. Use us, mold us and transform us for Your divine purposes, in Jesus’ mighty name.
