Resolve to be Anchored Hebrew 6:13-20
As we go through the text, I want you to keep in mind a few things from this passage:
- God made a promise to Abraham and he swore by Himself because no one was greater by whom to swear
- In the same way, in His desire to show to the heirs (US) of the promise, he has a promise and oath that is unchangeable- And He is God, He does not lie
- This a hope for all Christians – a confident assurance, an anchor of our soul that cannot slip or break under ANY pressure
- Safe and steadfast hope that enters within the vail -The vail was torn and now because of Jesus we can go directly to God
- Eva praying in the morning – God showed the contrast
- Jesus had entered as a forerunner – We get to follow
Today I want us to talk about the word Resolve
- Settle or find a solution to (a problem, dispute, or contentious matter)
- Decide firmly on a course of action
- Firm determination to do something
There is a war for your soul and a time has come to make a choice. The choice has to be made yesterday- but the next best day is today
- Everything in life is a choice – Even the things that we have no control over, we have a choice of how to react
- More so when it comes to our spiritual walk. The vail was torn giving you and I access to the Father, no more excuses of going through someone else or waiting for someone to get their life together so they can intercede for you.
- We all have a choice and we have to resolve – Make a firm determination to stay anchored within the veil
- When it comes to Christian walk, we don’t make a resolve of where we stand based on our own justification, its only because of where we are planted /anchored and who is the anchor
- That does not give us an out because – Proverbs 16:1 – The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the [wise] answer of the tongue.
- Man has to exercise his own reason in making his decisions but that he is dependent on the Lord
- We resolve to stay anchored and the Lord will give you the way to stay anchored
- Where are you anchored? – Truly if I may ask you to check your line to see where its tied to, what would you say- what if I asked your friends, family, Pastor, co-workers?
- I am sure if I took the time to hang out with you 24-7, I would know where your anchor rests
- How are we anchored?
- In Christ alone, through Christ, and by Christ
- John 3:16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([a]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
- Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we are justified ([a]acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to [b]enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
- Acts 4:12 – And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.
- We have an anchor that is Strong and immovable – God is the same yesterday today and forever
- When I think of Anchor, I think of a chain- I am tied to the end and other end is tied in inside the altar and no matter what happens, am not movable beyond a certain perimeter.
- I also have a choice to where my chain is anchored
- Galatians 6:8 – For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
- When we are anchored in Christ,
- We are steady in our walk – Bible – All other ground is sinking sand
- We are safe – Doesn’t matter how strong the wind blows – vs.19 – This confident assurance cannot slip and it cannot break under whatever pressure bears upon it.
- We are prepared – The issue with most of us is that we are scattered and the enemy loves that – Divide and conquer. But when we are anchored, we have a narrow focus- we are one in Christ and we are stronger together
- In Christ alone, through Christ, and by Christ
- What is affecting your anchor?
- Comfort – We love our comfort – we want to be anchored in a 5-star hotel with room service. Send someone to do our grocery runs and deliver them to our doors, order everything online for home delivery
- It difficult when you are anchored in a place where there is no comfort
- Where you see all your friends and family choosing luxury and you can’t because you have RESOLVED to follow Christ no matter the price
- This walk is not easy but the benefits are out of this world
- John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
- Lack of knowledge – my people perish because of lack of knowledge. We miss the point where we forsake all and only follow Christ. We think its ok to be double anchored, not in this case ( diversification) , that a dangerous move
- Pride – I can do it on my own, I don’t need anyone. Self-sufficiency – We are living in a community where it’s all about us
- We cannot manipulate the anchor to be something that its not
- Lack of waiting –
- Hebrew 6:15 – And so it was that he [Abraham], having waited long and endured patiently, realized and obtained [in the birth of Isaac as a pledge of what was to come] what God had promised him.
- Comfort – We love our comfort – we want to be anchored in a 5-star hotel with room service. Send someone to do our grocery runs and deliver them to our doors, order everything online for home delivery
- How do we stay anchored?
- Resolve – there is not a strong resolve- it’s just resolve (Nike- Just do it)
- Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
- Daniel
- Joseph – A young boy promised to be king, Anointed
- He resolved that he would honor God
- He resolved that he could not do anything that would compromise his integrity
- He waited
- Be immovable
- Be like the Big massive Ships that are getting dropped in the water and still stay standing
- Desire nothing outside the confines of Christ – Seriously
- James 1:14-15 – But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions). Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.
- Stop looking around – Resolve that this is where you belong – (Song) – there is not one else for me – But Jesus, crucified to set us free now I live to give Him praise
- Desire nothing outside the Church of God- Here is where we encourage each other, we check each other’s rings to make sure they are strongly anchored within the vail
- Resolve – there is not a strong resolve- it’s just resolve (Nike- Just do it)
Finally – A call to be tethered back again
- The prodigal son, Dad will wait – he never left his compound until he saw his son coming and ran to him and embraced him
- Today you may have left the comfort and protection on Christ – and you are out looking for a solid ground to be anchored without success
- There is not peace within, you are looking for a break but it all seems like when you are almost there, something comes up again – always
- Today God is saying – I have been waiting for you, come and let me restore you where you belong- Next to me, anchored to me
- Here the promise lies
- I got you and my hold on you will not slip or fail under any circumstance
- If that you, I want to give you an opportunity to respond
