APOSTASY

APOSTASY

IN THE MIDST OF GREAT apostasy, when the Lord had tried for years to bring back Israel to His ways and they continually rejected His Word and His prophets, but proceeded to fall further into deception; the Lord spoke to the prophet Jeremiah:“Thus says the Lord to this people: “Thus they have loved to wander; They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the Lord does not accept them; He will remember their iniquity now, And punish their sins.” Then the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for this people, for their good.”‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭14:10-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

There’s nothing new under the sun. God has not changed His mind. He will not allow your rebellious ways forever. There is a point where He has had enough. “The mercy of the Lord is everlasting”. Yes it is. His mercy is always available. He desires to show mercy over judgment. He continually reaches out and sends the Word of true prophets to rebuke and warn. It’s His mercy that draws the heart of men and it’s His mercy that finds the prodigal. But you can reject mercy. Mercy is everlasting- it means that His mercy is always available for those who want it, according to His plan, and on His terms- which is to those who repent. Salvation is of God. It’s His way, His plan, not according to what you want.

You can be invited to the wedding, but you will be kicked out without the right garment. What this does not mean is that you can continue to spurn His Word in disobedience and rebellion and that His mercy will just “cover” you. The lessons of Israel were written down for our example. Paul’s letter to the Romans contains such a message:“Well said. Because of unbelief they (the Jewish people) were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.”‭‭Romans‬ ‭11:20-22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We are in another time of great apostasy. Many are falling from Scriptural faith and truth in Christ. We are under a time of God’s judgment to His church. He’s cleaning His house. Judgment begins at the House of God. There is a separating taking place- a separation of the wheat from the chaff. And these look so drastically different to the spiritual eyes, but the rebellious see themselves as the ones in the truth and they think they are doing God service. God desires to show mercy, but mercy is only available through repentance. Time is short. The Lord is doing a quick work in the earth. Pray for the rebellious to repent and return, but do not pray for their good.

I understand that we want what’s best for people, and we don’t want them to have to suffer. But is it not better that they suffer here and now and not forever in eternity apart from the Lord? Paul says that we do not pray for the things we ought. Our natural minds are not always in sync with God’s will. This is the reason Jesus taught us how to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. We often enable people’s sin and rebellion and lead them further into destruction. Take your hands off the steering wheel. Get in the back seat and let the Lord drive your prayers. #runyourrace
