IT TAKES RESISTANCE TO BUILD MUSCLE. Here’s what I remember from physics: First law of motion- “An object will remain at rest or in a uniform state of motion unless that state is changed by an external force.” Great. You need resistance. But, here’s the stickler about building muscle- an athletic person, one who’s been weightlifting for years, can take a week or two off and not lose any muscle, a small amount of muscle loss occurs after three weeks off; but by the fourth week muscle loss is inevitable. This is in an ATHLETIC person. It’s much greater in someone who has not built that foundation of muscle. See where I’m going with this?
As it is in the physical, so goes it in the spiritual. You cannot rest on your laurels. I don’t care what you “used” to do- “I used to attend church faithfully” or “I used to read my Bible daily” or “I used to be a prayer warrior”. Well, if you do not continue to build on that foundation, you will experience spiritual atrophy AND the effects are much worse if you haven’t built a foundation of muscle. This is a CONTINUAL process.
My hero at the gym is not the young buck that can lift heavy. My hero is the 82 year old lady that’s been lifting her whole life and she’s ALWAYS there, regardless of her many aches and pains. “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are PLANTED in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,” Psalms 92:12-14 NKJV #runyourrace
