BARKING DOG

BARKING DOG

A DOG WILL BE A DOG. On my run this week, a dog was crossing the street several yards ahead of me. He heard me running, stopped and ran back down a side street, far away from me, but still just close enough to bark as I went by. I’m not going to feed a barking dog.

This is an illustration of a lot of people. They won’t bark at you to your face, but stay just close enough to ridicule you as you are going your way. In Biblical times, dog were savages, very different from the pet society we have today. They were considered unclean and vicious. Jesus made a stark comment to His disciples, “”Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” Matthew‬ ‭7:6‬

He is giving us sound wisdom. Truth is precious. Holiness and righteousness are precious. God’s wisdom is precious. The cross is precious. Jesus tells us to be DISCERNING in who we share the holy things of God with, for you have to know who are dogs and who are pigs; otherwise you will be torn to pieces. God’s Spirit working in you is HOLY and it is PRECIOUS and not everyone will understand why you don’t do the things you used to do or act the way you used to act. It’s ok, but understand that you CANNOT feed the dogs the Holy things of God! They will only attack you and could end up injuring you. Just nod and keep going. Let them bark at you as you run by.
