BETRAYAL IS A CONTINUAL THEME throughout Scripture. I just finished up the book of Judges. Samson was the last judge of Israel. Most of us know of Delilah’s betrayal of Samson for money and her three attempts at betrayal. I thought to myself, “how many times does she have to betray him before he stops going in to her?” She revealed to him several times what her motives were, yet he continually went back. How dense can you be?
But here’s the spiritual principle: sin hardens and waxes over your heart with deceit. Samson lacked the ability to see clearly over the many years of disobedience and gross negligence of his anointing by the Holy Spirit. He treated his gift as a common thing. (Hebrews 10:29) He lacked gratitude and was haughty and prideful, believing the lie of the enemy whispering in his ear, “God is with you” when in reality God would leave him.
Oh, what a dangerous road deception is! We are warned in the last day that deception would be widespread, “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,” I Timothy 4:1 Jesus said, “take heed that no one deceives you”. How can we avoid deception? Repent. Flee from sin and let nothing have a hold on you that offends God. Get rid of all pride and self righteous behavior and walk in humility. Study the Word to show yourself approved and obey His commands. Your fruit reveals your relationships, “bad company corrupts good morals”. Make His presence your dwelling place. Do what the Bible says and you get the Bible results.
