CAUSING YOUR BROTHER to stumble is a great offense before God and He holds you accountable. God had consecrated the Nazarites to be the highest examples of dedication and righteousness in Israel. Part of their consecration was to abstain from all kinds of wine; but many Israelites loved intoxicating drink and so they subverted the faithfulness of these Israelites by causing them to abandon their pledge of abstinence.
Because they placed this temptation before the Nazarites, God would bring judgment upon them: ““But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, And commanded the prophets saying, ‘Do not prophesy!’ “Behold, I am weighed down by you, As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down. Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself; He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself. The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day,” Says the Lord.”Amos 2:12-16 NKJV
Those who influence others to break their vow to God, compromise their conscience and move towards a life of sin should listen to God’s warning. Paul said, “It is good neither to eat meat, or to drink wine, nor do ANYTHING whereby your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak.” Romans 14:21 Where is this conviction among today’s Christians??
The conviction that cares more for your brother/sister in Christ than getting your own way and having your own selfish desires? God holds you responsible for causing another brother to sin when you refuse to discipline your flesh. It is an offense to God. You are your brother’s keeper. Disregarding the convictions of others in order to please ourselves destroys God’s work. Living sacrificially so as to help others will strengthen the kingdom of God.
Christ came not for His own interests but for other’s good. It reveals a lack of love to cause your brethren to sin. It reveals a lack of love to continually skip the gathering of the brethren for your own selfish desires. It reveals a lack of love to not serve and give the local assembly and to tell yourself you will serve and fellowship with “some” of your brethren but not all.
I am tired of church hoppers who are easily offended and continually move on to a new fellowship only to bring destruction like a hostile alien using up the resources of a planet and then moving on to the next. I am tired of the spiritual fornicators who only dabble with God’s holy church when they want something and then break your heart when they are finished.
By your example of unfaithfulness, you cause others to sin in this same way. This reveals a lack of love. “Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the BRETHREN. He who does not love his brother abides in death. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the BRETHRENI John 3:13-16 #runyourrace
