“But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”
Matthew 6:3 NKJV
I don’t know about you, but I love to give. I’ve always enjoyed giving of my time, money, and resources. I love to help others and do good works, but if I’m honest, I haven’t always done it because of my love for God.
There was a time in my life where I used the spiritual gift of giving that God gave me for my own selfish satisfaction. I gave because it made me feel good, not because it glorified God. I gave because I wanted recognition, not because I wanted Him recognized. “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.” (Matt. 6:1).
I didn’t announce my deeds, but in my heart I wanted to be seen. I secretly hoped it would be publicized because I had a void in my heart that I wasn’t allowing God to fill and mend. I wanted to give MY way and not His, I prayed often but never waited for a response before acting. It wasn’t until He corrected me that I became content with giving His way: “that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matt. 6:4).
Giving His way is done in love, humility, and obedience, not selfish pride and ambition. Give His way, to be seen only by Him, and He will reward you openly. Are you content to be seen only by God and no one else? Is He enough for you? Ask Him to examine your heart today. If you enjoy giving, what’s your motive? If you don’t enjoy giving, why not? #CalledtoBattle
