WE ARE DEPLETED because we refuse to live within the fields that God has given us. We have been given by God a field to work within, this place where we have been called by God to serve. When we look longingly another’s field as somehow more worthy or successful, we become depleted and burnt out.
“Comparison is the thief of joy” and I might add, thief of peace. Exhaustion and burn out are the fruit of “keeping up with Jones”. Pride then comes when we look at the sluggard’s field and think, “I’m doing so much better than him!” Your field may not be overran with weeds, but that moss growing in the dark is harmful. It might look good from a distance because it’s green, but up close it’s a mess.
Remember when your teacher used to tell you, “keep your eyes on your own paper”? Do just that. Don’t compare your field to mine. I might be called to grow strawberries and you are growing a crop of corn. Our fields are not going to look the same. God’s gifts to me are not the same as His gifts to you. His calling on your life is not the same as mine. The way He deals with you, is not always the way He deals with me. We are not in the same season. You don’t know how long I’ve been laboring in the heat of the day.
Keep your eyes on your own race and stay in your lane. Be content with what God has given you and the work He’s called you to. “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”” Hebrews 13:5-6
