“TO CONFESS”. Allow me to give you a lesson from the Greek. Jesus said this statement, ““Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32-33
”Confess” is an interesting word in the Greek. It doesn’t mean just to say the words, “I believe in Jesus”, which is what most think it means. No, it’s much more than that. It stems from two different words that rendered together are defined as “something said, thought, reasoned, motives plus a like-minded covenant, harmonious”. The word is “homologos”- being in the same place and time as the Word, a rough translation. Therefore, to “confess Jesus” means to live a life, including your actions and your words, that is in agreement with Him.
Confession is more than words, it’s a life lived in harmony with Jesus, the Word and the Holy Spirit. This means, we “confess” or “deny” Jesus by our lifestyle. John confirms this, “Whoever continues a life of sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not continue a life of sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you.
He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” 1 John 3:4-9 To continue to live a life of sin is not “homologous” with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, to “deny” translates as “to contradict”. So, to deny is to live a life contradictory to Jesus, His Word and the Holy Spirit; no matter what you “confess” with your tongue. Otherwise known as “lip service”.
I ask you then, are you living a life in agreement with Him or does your life contradict Him and His Word? If someone looked at your life, does it witness for Jesus? Or do you just look like the world? Niceness is not holiness. If the “love” you’ve received does not make you holy; it is not the Love of God. THIS is what it means to deny Him. BUT there is HOPE! Repent from your wickedness and evil way of thinking and put on the mind of Christ. Be transformed by renewing your mind to His Word. It’s not too late come into agreement and harmony with Jesus! #runyourrace
