CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES. There are many things you cannot control: the government, the weather, the beating of your heart and most definitely what others do and say. I wish I could control people, it would make my life so much easier.

I’m a control freak and it’s been one of my battles in this life. Oftentimes, I’ve had to learn things the hard way. Especially when it comes to the Lord. I cannot control Him. I am to die to myself and let Him control me. Like I said, often a daily battle to crucify my will. However, there are many things you can control and are to take responsibility for. I like to say you have a “response” ability. You are always able to choose your response. You can control what you put in your mouth and what words comes out of your mouth. You have the ability to plan your day effectively. We all have the same 24 hours.

You choose what you listen to, who your spend time with, the places you go, the voices you give ear to, the programming you watch, what books you read, how you spend your money. The things done to you do not have to control you. How are you responding? Let me pose it this way: do you respond or react? A good reaction stems from training. If you have been trained as an EMT, you typically will react fast in a life threatening situation. However, a bad reaction stems from a lack of self control. These are the times you fly off the handle.

“A man who does not control his temper is like a city whose wall is broken down.” Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭28‬

You can cast all caution to the wind and respond in fear, anger, frustration, depression; these things stem from a lack of discipline over your flesh. However, you can respond in a spirit of self-control. Self control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who have trained their flesh to obey the Spirit of righteousness.

Stop playing the victim and blaming everyone else and stop making excuses for bad behavior. When will you stop allowing what others did to you to be greater than His shed blood and the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome all things? You can be transformed by renewing your mind; but you have to align your thoughts, words, feelings with God’s Word and give the Spirit greater place in your life than your selfish flesh.

“”O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!” Jeremiah‬ ‭18:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
