SIGNS OF DECEPTION. “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” Matthew 24:24 The sentence structure in the original language does not imply an impossibility of deception; but rather signifies the difficulty of deceiving the elect, not impossibility.
“The elect” are Christians, true followers of Jesus, and members of his Church. These may fall from the faith because of the great deception that will occur, IF they are not diligent to obey and hold fast to His Word. We are in these days and deception will grow worse. Jesus gives us the signs that will characterize the whole course of the last days and how this deception will intensify as the end draws nearer: 1) False prophets and religious compromisers within the visible church will increase and deceive many.
This is happening in spades with the false love gospel, CRT, social justice, “kingdom now”, universal grace, etc.; there’s a deceptive mixture of new age practices with Scripture that’s promoted in the church and all these will continue to increase. 2) The increase of wars, famines and earthquakes. The whole earth is groaning, waiting for the adoption of the sons of God. 3) As the end draws nearer, the persecution of God’s people who hold to Scriptural truth will be one more severe and many will forsake loyalty to Jesus and His Word. 4) Violence, crime and disregard for God’s law will increase rapidly, and natural love for family affection will decrease.
Because lawlessness will abound, true love will grow cold. 5) The enemy uses “sorcery” (Revelation 18:23) to deceive the nations. This is the Greek word “pharmekia” and it has to do with the use of drugs. You should wake up to the world events taking place at an alarming rate. The first major sign is deception. “For many will come in My name, saying, “I am Christ” or “I am of Christ”; and shall deceive many. This sign has a special importance. Toward the end of the ages religious deception will be rampant on the earth.
Christ is so concerned that His followers be aware of the coming worldwide spiritual deception that He repeats His warning twice more in the Olivet Discourse. One more in verse 11, “and many false prophets shall arise and deceive many” and again in the above verse 24. The apostle Jude tells us these deceivers, “defile the flesh”, they teach grace as lewdness and that sexual immorality is permissible under grace. They reject authority. These deceivers have no respect for God’s authority. They mock the law and refuse instruction and correction from godly men and teachers. They speak evil of dignitaries: they mock the holy ones of God.
One of my biggest frustrations currently is the mocking of those who preach against sin and unrighteous. These are perilous times. Pay attention so you do not get washed away in the tide of the enemy. Jude gives us instructions to overcome false teaching and deception: 1. Contend for the faith (v 3) This is Scriptural truths, not a personal faith; but the truth of the Word of God, the truth of who He is and who He is not. 2. Pray in the Holy Spirit. (v 20) You cannot just pray a list of your demands, but pray according to and led by the Spirit. This is diligent and directed praying. 3. Keep yourself in the love of God. (v 21)
You cannot merely know He loves you, but you have to KEEP yourself in His love, which is only in Christ Jesus our Lord. Remain in His Words. This is the love of God, that we obey His commands. 4. Looking for His mercy. (v 21) Waiting on the Lord until He responds. Jesus says that those who endure to see His face have been diligent in two main areas: “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Revelation 3:8 NKJVYou can overcome deception. Do not believe the lie. Do not fear. Be diligent to be found in Him. Keep the Word of God. Do not deny Him. #runyourrace
