DO YOU DEFEND YOUR BITTERNESS and offense? Are you words witnessing against you? When you say, “You don’t know what I’ve been through!” or “You don’t understand what they did to me!” or “How could God allow this to happen?” Your bitterness is being revealed and you’re defending your position. I’m not sure you understand this yet- life is a map of hills and valleys and various topography in between. We are either going into a storm, in the middle of a storm, or on the other side of a storm; and there’s sunny days scattered in between. People will betray you and talk bad about you, there’s no escaping hurt. You will be despised and rejected by some, but not all.
A rabid dog bites. You will not get out of this life unscathed by “life”. It’s impossible. Life is difficult and people are blinded by the world. However, you are never entitled to be bitter. You have a choice: either TRUST GOD or bring a charge against Him for negligence. What will it be? I’m a very black and white person and when I read Scripture and come to understand the nature of God; He is who He says He is. He does not play games with us. He expects His people to take Him at His Word. Why are you so bitter? Will you erroneously charge the Lord with negligence and malfeasance? You better be very careful friend.
Do you think He doesn’t know your pain? Is He not well acquainted with suffering and rejection? Was He not betrayed? Maybe you’re in a bad way because of your poor choices? At least be honest with yourself. Many people say, “God told me to do this!” If it ends in destruction, God never spoke to you. You did what you wanted to do. Or maybe you quit because it got too hard?
Just because it’s hard, does not mean it is not of God. Much of the work the Lord has given me has been hard and required toiling in the heat of the day. Let me let you in on a little secret: you can do everything right and still have hard times. Just don’t quit and stop making excuses. “I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse.” Florence Nightingale. Do not defend your bitterness. Repent and get back in the race. Quitting only brings discouragement and discouragement brings bitterness. And bitterness defiles the soul.
“Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;”
Hebrews 12:12-15 NKJV
