PSALM 37 USES TWO DIFFERENT WORDS for our English word “delight”. In verses 4 and 11, “Delight yourself also in the LORD; and He shall give you the desires of your heart. They shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Delight is an intense word, Hebrew “anag “ to speak of the exquisite delight we are to take in the Lord and in the great abundance of peace, blessing, and well-being He gives. In v. 23, another word is found, “hafets” this word expresses
God’s genuine pleasure when we do what PLEASES HIM. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way.” What does this all mean? YOU delight in the Lord- desire and enjoy His presence and the truth and righteousness of His Word. YOU truly desire Him more than anything He can do for you. Desperately seek His face, to know Him and be found in Him, having His righteousness by faith in Jesus. Surrender to His will. Die to self and live for Christ. Love the brethren and obey the authority that He places over you.
When your ways align with His ways and He’s all you desire and obeying Him is all you care about THEN, He takes great delight in you. “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” Psalms 1:1-3
