GOD HAD GIVEN THE ISRAELITES STRICT instructions before they entered the Promised land to “utterly destroy” the people there. Why? Archeology reveals that the Canaanites were involved in all kinds of idolatry, cult prostitution, violence, burning of children as sacrifice and magical spiritualism. In short, they had fully given themselves over to moral depravity.
Much like in the days of Lot, who pitched his tent in Sodom. His family adopted the ways of that wicked society and so he lost his wife and other members of his household. “Remember Lot’s wife”, the shortest sermon preached. It’s message is to not love this present world and adopt its ways. Destruction awaits.
Back to the Israelites. They didn’t utterly destroy the Canaanites as they were commanded and shortly after taking possession began to adopt their ways. The Exodus from Egypt and entrance into the Promised land experience foreshadows the born again man coming out of the world and into a new life with Christ.
You’ve been delivered and set free, but you still have to utterly drive out Canaan or its ways will corrupt you. You cannot “coexist” with Canaan. You cannot live in victory longing for its ways in your heart and mind. You have to utterly drive out anything that is of the world. If not, you are in danger of becoming like Canaan.
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.””II Corinthians 6:14-17 NKJV
God will not utterly destroy Canaan for you- it’s on you. We must live in this world. But we are not of this world, we are just pilgrims passing through. I’m currently watching many people fall away from doctrinal truth and exchange Christ’s doctrine for Canaan’s, “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.” (II John 1:9-11)
Parents are sending their kids to humanistic schools, sacrificing them to Molech. All manner of sexual sin is celebrated, even by those claiming to know Christ, just as it was celebrated in Sodom. We might just be close to the days of Noah, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5)
If anything, we are in the days of those calling evil, good and calling good, evil. Woe to those. Take heart friend. There’s still a work to do. You are still here, therefore God is not done. The early Christians did not pray for easier circumstances, but for boldness in the face of adversity, “Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word,” (Acts 4:29).
These last days require courage. Stand on the Word of God and you will be called hateful, bigoted, a racist, a white supremest, (no matter what your shade of skin), and all other forms of derogatory names. The NT disciples were called the scum of the earth. You are in good company. Rejoice! Greater is He. He gives you His Spirit and the Word in order to overcome the world.
Do not let Canaan’s thinking and ways get a stronghold in you, but utterly destroy her corrupt ways in Jesus’ name and you will be able to endure. Be bold, be strong! For the Lord your God is with you. “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”Revelation 18:4 NKJV#runyourrace
