NO IDOL LEFT UNTURNED, no nation left undestroyed. The new man in Christ has nothing to rely on accept the Lord Himself. He cannot go back to his idols, nor that pagan nation in which he came out of. Light can have no fellowship with darkness. The new man cannot love the world and love God. If you love the world and it’s ways, you hate God. And if you truly love God, you hate the world and it’s ways. It’s simple. The man of God must purge himself of everything that offends the Lord.
“Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
II Timothy 2:19-21
Israel failed to do this very thing,
“They did not destroy the [heathen] nations as the Lord commanded them, But mingled themselves with the [idolatrous] nations and learned their ways and works And served their idols, which were a snare to them.” Psalm 106:34-36
The Lord commands you to come out of the world, put off the old man and be holy as He is holy, in ALL manner of actions and conversation. IF you do not destroy those idols, they will be a snare unto your soul. You cannot serve two masters. What are your idols? Before I list some things, there are modern day idols. Some of these are more constructs and ideas than actual statues that you bow down to. Search your heart and ask the Lord to reveal any idols you may have lifted above or equal to Him and His Word.
Here are a few things: Riches. Cares of this world. Fame and success. Control. Pleasing others. Pleasing self. Sex. Pride of life. Comfort. Job status. The government. Science. Philosophy. Maybe it’s a person- Your family. Spouse. Kids and/or kid’s sports. Your own identity in the world. Identity is a huge idol in today’s culture. These things must be destroyed! If anything or anyone is placed on the altar above the Lord Jesus and His Word, or you make any philosophy or worldly wisdom equal to His Word; it will be a snare to your soul! Jesus said, “Remember Lot’s wife”.
On the day of destruction, she couldn’t leave Sodom because her heart was attached to that city and its pernicious ways. Lot pitched his tent in Sodom and even though his daughters escaped, Sodom’s ways were implanted in their hearts as a snare. These things were recorded for our own instruction. Destroy every idol. God is your great Provider and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Nothing else can satisfy like the Lord. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and then don’t worry about anything else.
