Destroy The Enemy 1 sam 30:9-31
- David and his 600 men set out to battle, 200 stay behind. They find an Egyptian in a field. Give him food and water and he helps them find the amalakites (remember these are the guys who kidnapped all their families) So David and his men wail a tune on these dudes all night long. Get their families back. Take their stuff. They come back from battle, the 200 are there who didn’t fight- they share the spoils with them. David goes to all the people he’s been against and shares the spoils with them. Life is good.
- Strengthen yourself in the Lord -Inquire of the Lord and do what he says
- There’s an old song we used to sing at FVC- “the Enemies Camp” my kids loved that song-
- Seems like a really fun song- but Its actually connected to this scripture- David Goes back
- John 10:10 says that Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy
- That’s his economy- that’s all he knows how to do- he operates in destruction- and as a child of God- you have a choice- Fight the enemy or take his destruction
- I’m not giving up. I’m not giving him ground. I’m not letting him steal my faith, family, life
- If we’re going to go to the Enemies camp- how are we going to win? How do we beat him?

1.To Destroy the Enemy- Don’t Get discouraged
- Dis-couragement is simply a lack of courage- If you are dis-couraged you have lost courage
- You cannot fight the enemy if you are discouraged- you need courage
- 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor.
- These 200 men for whatever reason didn’t have the courage to go to war. Stayed back
- They lacked courage- they had lost belief. They forgot the promises of God-
- Deuteronomy 31:8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
- Courage is lost when you forget the promises of God and the power that goes with you
- Discouragement happens- Its why people quit relationships, marriages, jobs, military
- I saw many people quit the military when I was in and it wasn’t even at war- dirtbags
- And in this world- its very easy to get discouraged- to fall into a trap of mental destruction
- But if you’re going to go into the enemies camp and take it back- you need COURAGE

- What does it mean to you?
- Have you forgot who you are and whose you are and who is fighting for you and through you?
- Have you forgot the promises of God? Have you lost the courage of the Lord to fight?
- Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
- Read Psa 144 Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers
- The Creator of the Universe is a mighty God that GOES WITH YOU into the Battles of LIFE
- You are not ALONE- You are not a rouge fighter trying to find your way- he is WITH YOU
- I get discouraged whenever I think its on me and my strength- encouraged with HIM
- Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
- How do you find courage when you’ve lost it? Quote scripture and remember his faithfulness
- Jeremiah 1:8 Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.
- Get prayed up- worship- Remember his deliverance. Quote scripture. Go in the power of the Holy Spirit- Acts 1:8 You shall receive POWER.
- Psalm 91:7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.

2. To Destroy the enemy fight with all you got
- The enemy does not fight fair. He doesn’t deal in kind ofs- its an all out assault.
- 17 Then David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled. 18-20
- David had heard from God to go and attack and he would win- so David fought with everything
- He didn’t go in half hearted- trying to negotiate- negotiate time is over- YOU GONNA DIE
- Remember- we’re talking about fighting the enemy- not people. SPIRITUAL application Eph 6:12
- Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
- Most of your battles are spiritual ones and they must be fought SPIRITUALLY-
- We are sadly no longer an army of the most high moving through the land destroying enemies
- Psalm 18:37-42 CONTEXT- Song he wrote after this battle-
- David knew God was with him but he was IN THE FIGHT. He was giving it all he had!
- The only rule in warfare is win at all costs. The armor of God has no back shield only FORWARD
- What does it mean to you?
- How are you fighting the enemy? What’s your attack plan? Coming to church once in a while and playing candy crush on your phone during worship? Pretending you love the Lord?
- Your spiritual life is in shambles because you’re not in the FIGHT you’re giving up- FIGHT
- Friends with an MMA fighter- you don’t get scared when you break your jaw and live
- READ Malachi 4:2-3 You shall trample the wicked
- 1 Timothy 1:18 [ Fight the Good Fight ] This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
- Here’s the deal- America used to win wars a whole lot easier when they used nuke and leave no one alive. They dropped more bombs in Viet Nam than all of Europe in WWII
- Death and international diplomacy aside, we must agree- destruction is the path to victory
- Sort of remove the cancer, kind of won the fight, almost climbed the mountain, 3rd in the World
- Proverbs 24:10 If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.
- It wont be by yourself! God is going with you!
- Zech 4:6b ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit says the Lord
- Isaiah 52:12b For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

To destroy the Enemy- Give People Grace
- David wins- He gets all the spoils. He says ‘This is David’s spoil’, what he does next is key
- May people upon experiencing victory or increase in their life become haughty and prideful
- This interaction with David’s troop shows a lot about his heart- a picture of grace of God
- Bunch of guys are upset that they come back and non-fighters are there- they get nothing
- V 24 But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.”
- David shows grace- He Doesn’t have to- but he Does and displays the heart of God
- Even when you don’t have courage, even if you can’t fight, if you’re Israel- you share in victory
- Why? Because it’s a collective group not a stack ranked hierarchy. We all win
- Luke 6:36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
- I think David finally understood how merciful God had been with him, and wanted to extend
- These guys lacked courage, didn’t fight, didn’t DESERVE the spoils, but GOT THEM ANYWAY
- What does it mean to you?
- We’re suppose to destroy the enemy- not destroy each other. Devil loves retribution
- Same as us- We don’t deserve anything that we have. ALL we have is from HIM
- David hadn’t won the battle- GOD won it THROUGH him- Smaller force, shouldn’t have won
- Be honest- what do you have that God didn’t give you? Personality, timed meetings, work ethic
- And how many times have you lost courage? Unwilling to fight? And God STILL did it!
- I have been tired, worn out, defeated, unable to continue on, and God has shown me GRACE
- How can we not be people of mercy? How can we NOT forgive? NOT Share with Church?
- Colossians 3:12-13 READ (NOT USING THESE)Rom 12:10 Eph 4:32 Matthew 5:7 James 2:13

To Beat the Enemy- Be Generous
- David is gracious to his people gives THEM some spoils and THEN goes and shares MORE
- 26 Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, “Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord”—
- These are all the people that he went against. All the people that he had hurt. (where he roved)
- He could have kept it all- and got stronger to keep control but he gave it away!
- Pro 11:25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
- 1 Chron 22:14 5000 tons of Gold. 50000 tons of silver, bronze, iron. He got rich eventually.
- The greatest part of David life wasn’t that he was remembered for wealth, but HEART
- Here’s the principle- If God has been generous with YOU how can you NOT be generous?
- David is fixing to be KING and he has a chance to make statement and its GENEROSITY
- What does it mean to you?
- Everytime you’re generous you honor God and you give the Devil a black eye-
- Why? Because the Devil is NOT generous. Covetness, envy, sins of the HEART Devil LOVES IT
- And its NOT just money- Its EVERYTHING- Time, information, talent, know how,
- Hebr 13:16 do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
- You have to get past this idea that it’s a zero sum game- if you’re in business and you help your competitor, everyone wins. Help the best player on your kids team get better. SHARE
- 2 Cor 9:6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
- This generosity starts at home- Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
- Check your heart- do you not remember what you were saved from? Do you not know who gave you the win? Don’t bless the Devil by not being generous after you beat the Enemy!
