DISTRACTED

DISTRACTED

REMEMBER THE MOVIE “UP”? I cry like a baby every time I see it. In the movie, the word “SQUIRREL” is used to distract any dog; and it works marvelously. I remember our dog Ranger and how the squirrels in our backyard would run across the fence and drive him crazy. He would jump up high on the fence to try to get the squirrel and because of his heavy weight, he ended up pushing over our fence. He was a crazy dog.

All we had to do was say, “Squirrel!” And he would go crazy. I thought “Wow!” Isn’t that just like Satan! He uses one word, one thought, one circumstance, one event and we hear “SQUIRREL!” and suddenly we are off course. We are entangled in something that isn’t our burden to bear. We take on other’s offenses and become part of a divisive spirit, taking part in rebellion. We get entangled with world events. We get entangled with something else other than what God has called us to. We compare our work to others and become competitive with our brother.

Satan is a master strategist and he is great at his job. The Bible tells us,“lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭2:11‬I tell people we are not supposed to be ignorant of Satan’s devices, we should be well aware of how he attacks. Sadly, most of us are ignorant and cannot discern when the enemy uses distractions such as: offenses, bitterness, unforgiveness, opinions of men, people pleasing, desire for power or control or the need to be seen and heard.

We are supposed to be so engrossed in the Lord and in sync with the Holy Spirit, His Word and the work He has called us to that when he yells, “SQUIRREL”, it falls on deaf ears. Why are most ignorant? I believe it’s because most are Scripturally unsound and have erroneously believed they can serve Jesus apart from His Body.

Disobedience will always open a door for the enemy. Paul tells Timothy, “No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭No good soldier for Jesus gets entangled with any kind of distraction going on in the world. It’s high time we “endure hardship like a good soldier of Jesus Christ!” The Lord has a specific job for you and me in the body of Christ and it MUST be done until the end of our days.

Your finish line is death, only he who endures until the end shall be saved. Salvation is a walk until we die. Distractions are meant to throw us off our path. Stop looking at the world and what it’s doing- these are distractions from the enemy to get you off track.

One day you will stand before the Lord and answer for the work He gave you. Are you busy plowing the field He has given you? Are you too busy loving and caring for the brethren you don’t have the energy for Satan’s tactics? Or have you been distracted and are arguing with your brethren over what crops to plant? Keep your eyes on the prize and your head down to the work of your own hands. Do not be counted among the unwise. #runyourrace
