“I HATE THE DOUBLE-MINDED, But I love Your law.” Psalms 119:113 NKJVThe King James renders it: “I hate vain thoughts” or “wild imaginations”, a word which signifies the shootings, or branchings of the mind; namely, all wild, roving desires, in opposition to the truth and solidity of God’s word.
The Hebrew word means divided; a man of a divided mind; a man who has no sure faith in regard to divine things, but is driven here and there; a sceptic; a doubter, “he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:8 Thus it refers not to his own thoughts primarily, as being “vain” or worthless, but to a state of mind or heart in general, where there is no firmness, no stability, no settled view: a state of mind wavering, doubtful, skeptical, in regard to God’s holy Word.
What is implied here in reference to what he loved – by stating (in the way of contrast) what he “hated,” – would be a mind which was settled in its convictions of truth, and firm in its adherence to truth; a mind which was steadfast, and not vacillating, skeptical, or uncertain on the subject of God’s Word. This denotes that the psalmist sought such a state of mind for himself, and that he valued it in others.“I hate the double- minded” because this man is contrary in his dealings with God’s Word.
One minute he holds fast, the next he drowns in doubt. This man picks and chooses which Scripture he wants to obey and which he can let fall by the wayside. This man mocks God’s laws, changes and perverts them and calls it “good”. He changes with every wind of doctrine and new revelation, the progressive so called “Christian”, falters under the slightest affliction and bows down to public opinion. The man who proclaims good evil and evil as good; fleshly, prideful, and the self-righteous man thinking his new ways and new revelations are better than God’s law. He makes God’s law useless and outdated by his own arrogant and ignorant thinking. “But I love Your law”.
Why? Because it never changes, it never falters, it never bends, it never fails. There is nothing “unstable” or ‘,double-minded” in the law of God. It is clear, direct, and unmistakable. When we love the law it becomes a law of love, and we cling to it with our whole heart. The man of God values and honors God’s Word above all else, clinging to His every precept and holding fast to every commandment.
The man who loves God’s Word will not keep company with those who change, mock and despise it, “Depart from me, you evildoers, For I will keep the commandments of my God!” Psalms 119:115 I will have no society, friendship, or conversation with you; for I will keep the commandments of my God. They are precious to me. I value His Word above all treasures on the earth. His Word is life and health to all flesh. Not only do I cleave to His precepts, I boldly speak them to others. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth.” John 17:17 NKJV#runyourrace
