Drake and God’s Plan v 24
- 1 Sam 9:15-27- Choosing of Saul. Prophet, choosing, ends with a dinner with a thigh of meat.
- There’s a song called “God’s plan” by and Artist named Drake. I don’t want to besmirch him as a person, but for context, this song is one of the biggest hits of the past 25 years. 101m streams. 858m views on youtube. Drake is worth 120m at 31 years old. He’s an influencer.
- The problem with “God’s plan” is that songs like that influence people to believe that because Drake says that his life is “God’s plan” that somehow God has looked down from heaven, made Drake a millionaire with mansions, and a child with a porn star on the back of Godless lyrics.
- People look and see his worldly ‘success’ and justify it as ‘god’s plan’. This is not gods plan.
- God’s plan comes from him, not you
- 15 Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul came, “the Lord had told”
- That’s the beginning of God’s plan. It comes from him. Not you. Samuel didn’t go to God and say “tell me who the king will be because we want one” God sees the issue, he speaks to Samuel so Samuel can do HIS plan
- This is where the disconnect happens for many people. They come up with a plan, and then they come to God asking him to bless it instead of waiting for God to give HIS plan. (dating)
- Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
- God is working a cosmic plan to bring about his eternal ends
- Even in this story, God is laying the groundwork for the supreme King- Jesus. Saul is going to be flawed- very flawed- proving to the Israelites the fallacy of having an earthly king other than God.
- The problem is that often people who don’t even know the God of the Bible want to think that they know God’s plan, but if you Don’t know God, you don’t know his plan.
- To the reprobate nations Micah spoke- Micah 4:12 But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord, Nor do they understand His counsel;
- If you are not a believer of Jesus, reading his word, walking in his ways, you cannot discern his plan. You are not in his plan or on his team.
- God’s plan may not make sense to you- but it makes sense to God and that is all that matters
- Job 23:13 “But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.
- What does it mean to you?
- If you are not on the God plan, you are walking in rebellion. God’s plan is not your will its his.
- Isaiah 30:1 “Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin;
- Paul even said in 1 Cor 1: 17 Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No?
- He wanted his plans to be God’s plan. Not fleshly. Not of his own design.
- Who is making your plans for your life? You? Or God?
- Jobs, spouses, houses, location to live, Friends to have, how to spend your money, how to spend your time?
- The first step to understanding God’s plan is to die to yourself. If you aren’t dead to yourself, you can never understand or live out God’s plan. It will not work
- Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
- If you are being ran by your desires and passions the Bible says you’re are not Christs
- God’s plan is his timing v16 “Tomorrow about this time”
- God told Samuel who and God told Samuel When
- The plans of God are on HIS timeline not yours. God is fine with you waiting. It doesn’t bother
- Like when parents make kids wait- The kid thinks they are going to die, parents notsomuch
- Even when God sent Jesus- it was on HIS timeline-
- Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
- Jesus was God in the flesh and even HE didn’t know the timeline of the father!
- Of Christs return he said Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
- What does it mean to you?
- If you’re on the God plan- you must rest in the understanding of HIS timeline and not yours
- Say- “God, I am going to trust in your timing. I know you are going to do it in due season”
- Acts 1:7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
- I’m supposed to know whats going on here because I’m the leader- Im not going to fabricate some vision to rattle up the troops so I can grow and organization
- The vision is be faithful until God does something then we’ll figure it out- HIS TIMELINE
- God’s Plan is his influence
- 16 “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel, that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.”
- “I will send you” “you shall anoint him” “that he may save My people”
- Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
- Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
- Hebrews 13:21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
- Romans 9:16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
- God’s plan is his choice
- 17 So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, “There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people.” “there he is”
- Part of having the name tag “God” is that you get to make the choice. Its your show.
- Some people would ask (and you’ll ask later) Why did God choose Saul? His choice! Not mine!
- Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
- David even asked in Psalm 8- Why would God even think of man? Why? His choice!
- You must live with a mindset of understanding that often times, although God gives us freewill, there are areas of his sovereignty that cannot be fathomed or understood- Its his choice
- Why did he makes sharks, spiders and eggplant? I have no idea- but it was his choice?
- Why did God let people die in a tornado? He may have made the tornado, but those people chose to live there
- What does it mean to you?
- You have choice in your life- You can choose to act on your own, or you can submit to God and allow him to make the choices. You can get outside of the will of God-
- This is a squishy area- its hard to discern
- 2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
- You must be resting in the fullness of God. Submitted, obeying, loving, living, searching.
- Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
- God will direct your steps
- God’s plan is his way
- (v 18-21) you thought you were looking for donkeys “but as for your donkeys”
- (v 22-24) READ v 22-24 Samuel, brought Saul. Brought him to the place of honor. Cook brought him food. It was set apart for you. Eat.
- Saul was to become King! He didn’t wake up that moment and think that
- V24 So the cook took up the thigh with its upper part and set it before Saul.
- Numbers 18, Lev 7, Exodus 29 Talks about this portion of meat being for Priests and Levites
- Weird stuff in the Bible- Giants and Angels cross breeding Gen 6, Matt 17 coin in fishes mouth, Make fun of bald prophet, get mauled by bears 2 kings 2, argue with a donkey and lose numbers 22, Jesus curses a fig tree in Matt 21, zipporah saves her husband moses with her sons foreskin in Ex 4, David gets 200 foreskins to give to Saul for his daughters hand in marriage in 1 sam 18
- Why? Man- I really don’t know. If its his plan- its his way- whatever he wants to do its up to him.
- Isaiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
- What does it mean to you?
- Stop questioning God’s methods and means. Fully submit to him and believe that he knows what he’s doing and be OK with it.
- the Bible is disagreeable to me in my flesh. But my spirit will submit to him and his ways
- If God says to do it, I’m going to do it. Albeit reluctantly and just in obedience sometimes, but I’ll do it to honor him
- If God says not to do it, I’m not going to do it. I don’t even have to fully understand it. I have to understand that the God of the universe has his ways, his means, his plans. If I want to be a part of his plan, I’ve got to get on his plan and if he chooses to do it in a way I many not understand or agree with, I’m going to do it anyway. Cause its HIS plan..
