Deacons Do the Work of the Ministry
At Faith and Victory Church (FVC) our leadership is based on the Bible. In the Bible, the disciples used Deacons to do the work of the Ministry so that the word of God could be preached and go forth to all the people.
That is much the same way deacons work at Faith and Victory Church. Deacons do the “work” of the ministry so that the senior pastor doesn’t have to be concerned with leaky faucets, napkins for the AMC, or that every person that attends FVC has someone in leadership that they feel comfortable reaching out to.
FVC Deacons are chosen and led by Pastor Todd in coordination with the Pastor Matt (Senior Pastor) and the FVC Elder Board. If you would like to know more about the leadership structure of FVC please click on the button below.
FVC Deacons were created off what the Bible Says
1 Timothy 3:8-13 – Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.
Acts 6:1-6 – Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch.
Deacons Must Be Tested
The process of being an ordained deacon is not one FVC takes lightly. We test and train our deacons for one calendar year before presenting them to the church. During this time we cover the important church doctrines, train them how to be leaders, and examine their lives and look for reasons that they should not be deacons.
Deacons Serve So the Preaching of the Word may go Forth
Deacons serve the leadership of the Church so that the Word (church) may go forth. Deacons do the work of the church. In ACTS this was distributing food to the homeless. For Faith and Victory Church responsibilities range from meeting with church members, serving and leading ministries within the church, to anything the Pastors need to make the mission of the church succeed.
Deacons are not decision makers at FVC. That is an Elder role. Deacons are not paid church staff but rather members of the church who are called to be a part of church leadership but not be a pastor. Being a Deacon is not something you “apply” for. Pastor Todd and Pastor Matt select deacons to be trained as needed and as the spirit instructs.
Many pastors (from other churches) are burnt out because they don’t have enough leadership help. Deacons provide a trained and talented pool of people to draw from that the pastors of the church can trust to do the work of the ministry. The deacons of FVC are invaluable in making the church function properly. To view the current serving Deacons of FVC make sure to visit the FVC Leadership Page.
