Great is Thy Faithfulness! Never once did I ever walk alone! You are faithful! Song titles and lyrics of worship songs about the unending faithfulness of God who has, does and will continue to walk faithfully with us through this life. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is not a man that He should lie. Numbers 23:19. Jesus sits at the right hand of God on His throne faithfully interceding for you and me regardless of our faithfulness to Him. For even while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God will be faithful to us, for the story of the Bible proves this clearly to us, but will we as believers continue to be faithful to Him?
Faithful in the Hebrew is aman. It means to be firm, endure, be faithful, be true, steadfast, to trust. I love the word picture in Isaiah 22:23-25 faithfulness refers to a place into which a peg will be driven so that it will be immovable. The peg will remain firmly anchored, even though it is pushed so hard that it breaks off at the point of entry. (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Faithful in the Greek is pistis. The meaning of this is to have moral conviction of the truth or a belief of respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things. Both of these definitions are important in understanding faithfulness.
The Word of God declares not all those hear the good news will receive the message and be saved. All those who hear are both Jew and Gentile. For thousands of years, the good news has been preached. Those who have gone before our time, Apostles, Pastors, Prophets have stood firm in the faith. They have endured in the belief that despite the circumstances of the present life they would continue to be faithful to God.
Romans 10:17 NIV Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the word about Christ. I believe those who have gone before us were able to endure because of their unyielding commitment to the word of God and commitment to the message of Jesus Christ. God has faithfully entrusted each of us with this message. The Apostle Paul states it well in 1 Timothy.
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of who I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:12-15
Today is the day for faithfulness to God! Will you be like many who have gone before who were unable to endure or will you be like the peg so firmly anchored and immovable? My daily prayer to the Lord is that upon His return that I am found faithful that the Lord would say of me, great is thy faithfulness.
Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
