Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is the day of the LORD to you? It will be darkness, and not light.
Amos 5:18
Do you have peace, or a false sense of security? This is what the Lord spoke to me concerning the church: there are many who walk with a false sense of security because they perceive themselves to be righteous but walk contrary to God’s ways. They are set in their own ways and beliefs, unwilling to change according with Scripture, twisting God’s word to suit their own narratives rather than allowing His word to pierce their hearts. With one hand they reject the truth, and with the other they draw close to themselves the deceptive lies that keep them separate from God.
Paul warned the church of Corinth that though the fathers (the Israelites that came before them) had all walked together and experienced the same miraculous power of God, many of them perished because of their sins (1 Cor. 10:5). His warning echoes today: those who believe they will escape judgment because they call themselves a Christian while following their own lusts are deceived. “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Cor. 10:12).
The prophet Amos warned the people that many who awaited the day of the Lord awaited their own destruction, contrary to what they believed. They felt secure in their heritage, their wealth, their city and fortifications, but true security is only found in the Lord. The Jews told Jesus “we have one Father—God”, to which He replied “IF God were your Father, you would love Me…” (John 8:42). There is a day coming very soon, a great separation of the sheep and the goats. The sheep walk in His peace by following His commandments, while the goats fill themselves with selfish lusts and false security because “God is our Father”. Do not be deceived.
