REASONS FOR THE FEAR OF THE LORD. In keeping with the meaning of the fear of the Lord are the following reasons for fearing Him:(1) We should fear Him because of His authority as the Creator of all things and people, “So he said to them, “I am a Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land. ” Jonah 1:9
The fact that God’s awesome authority and power continue to be exercised over the elements of creation and over the human race is sufficient cause for holy fear, “I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.” Ecclesiastes 3:14 (2) The holiness of God and His separation from and constant opposition to sin and unrighteousness should cause us to fear Him, “Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.”” Revelation 15:4 (3)
The universal judgment of God at the end of history should cause us to fear Him who judges all injustice and inequity. It is a solemn and holy truth of Scripture that in the day of final judgment every person will give an account to God for their actions and the stewardship of life, “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.”Revelation 20:12 (4) God has promised to bless and honor all those who fear Him, “By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.” Proverbs 22:4
Other blessings promised include protection from death, provisions for our daily needs, and a long life. Those who fear the Lord know that “it shall be well with them that fear God” regardless of what happens in the world around us. “Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him. But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God.” Ecclesiastes 8:12-13
Those who live without fearing the Lord have no promise of His presence, favor and protection; on the other hand, those who fear God and obey Him from the heart experience security and the enabling grace and power of the Holy Spirit. The person who fears God need not fear ANYTHING else; but the person who does not fear God is vulnerable to fearing everything else. #runyourrace
