DURING THE TIME OF AHAZ, the kings of Ephraim and Syria joined forces against Judah. Isaiah was sent to tell king Ahaz (king of Judah) that God would protect Judah and her people, but Ahaz being an evil, unbelieving and fearful king sought after the help of Assyria. Isaiah then received a strong Word from the Lord, “For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying: “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, And let Him be your dread.” Isaiah 8:11-13
Isaiah warned the people to not take part in the treachery of Ahaz in going to the king of Assyria for help; God considered it treason to ask help from Assyria. He was to be Israel’s Help. The people were terrified of the Syrian-Ephraim joint force that was coming, and because of this fear, they supported the nation’s treachery against God. God put this on my heart this morning. God has recorded the history of Israel so that we can learn from it. We are to fear the Lord and no one or nothing else.
When society or even other Christians walk according to the ways of the world, following the dictates and orders of men, we are to separate from them. Because of fear, the Jews acquiesced to evil leadership and Isaiah was told to not walk in their fearful ways. If only we lived in a time when the spirit of fear was predominant in society! Sarcasm intended. We are to fear the Lord and Him only. His name is to be hallowed, revered and honored. We do not bow down to a society that honors idols and a philosophy of lies and we do not fear their threats against us.
What is going on right now is a dividing line and God is separating the wheat from the chaff. Either you trust God only and He is your King; or you trust in someone or something else to take care of you. Our health, our security, our wealth, our provision is in God alone. He alone is our Rock and Sanctuary. Fear will be your downfall. “The Lord, who will be a Sanctuary to those who trust in him, will be a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offence, to those who make the creature their fear and their hope. If the things of God be an offence to us, they will undo us.” — Matthew Henry#runyourrace
