FLESHLY BATTLE

FLESHLY BATTLE

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL! The Christian’s struggle against our sinful flesh is a REAL and constant bloody battle until we die. Our flesh wants to sin and the Spirit living inside us wants to produce righteousness and these two forces are contrary to each other.

Lately, jealously has been creeping up in me and I am fighting hard against it. I don’t remember ever dealing with jealousy, but that green eyed monster has reared it’s ugly head. I fought a bloody battle against alcohol and by the Spirit I overcame. I fought a bloody battle against lust and by the Spirit I overcame. And by the Spirit I will overcome this battle, because greater is He that is in me.

Romans 8:13 tells us, “For if you live after the fleshly nature, you shall die: (spiritual death) but if you through the Spirit so MORTIFY (PUT TO DEATH) the deeds of the body, you shall live.” Paul said like a boxer training hard for a fight, he kept his body under subjection and disciplined so that he would not be counted as a castaway.

Please read this in context. Paul told the Corinthian church that although he preached to thousands, yet did not control his fleshly urges; he would miss the mark and not make heaven (1 Cor 9:24-27) There are several places in Scripture where Paul tells a church that if they continued to live according to their sinful nature, they would not inherit eternal life. This is a real a present warning.

Do not be deceived. Lawyer, theologian and college president, Charles Finney was also the most famous revivalist of the Second Great Awakening. He did not merely lead revivals; he actively marketed, promoted and packaged them. He said the following, “I have a retainer from the Lord Jesus Christ to plead his cause, and cannot plead yours.”

Thousands of people fell down in repentance under his preaching. He also said,“A shocking guilt and treason with the case of the Christian who says, “I expect to sin every day I live,” And who says this with unmoved carelessness. You expect to be a traitor to Jesus each day of your life; to crucify him afresh each day; to put Him each day to a open shame: each day to dishonor His name, and grieve His heart, to bring sorrow and shame upon all who love Christ’s cause?…”

You do have a choice- walk according to your flesh, give yourself over to its sinful desires and die an eternal death and separation; OR be led by the Spirit. Walk in His ways. Crucify your sinful desires on a daily basis. Line your life up with God’s Holy Word, it is life and truth. If you have sinned, fall down in repentance, receive forgiveness, get yourself up and keep running the race. He is faithful to forgive all who repent, but intentionally sinning is a grave offense.

You can and will overcome all things by the Word and the Holy Spirit. We are more than a conqueror through Jesus who loved us. The blood of Christ is more powerful than our flesh. Do not fall into the trap of, “I always have to sin.”It is a lie. Today, choose life in the Spirit and you will overcome the flesh. He is faithful to do all He promises. #runyourrace
