REVELATION-REPENTANCE-REVIVAL- rejoicing. Many of the returned exiles during the rebuilding of the temple and city wall no longer understood Hebrew. So, a group of dedicated men helped the exiles to understand the law and to apply it to their lives. “So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.” Nehemiah 8:8
As a result, revelation of God’s Word brought forth mourning, godly repentance and confession of sins, “all the people wept when they heard the words of the law”. Repentance brought forth a revival. There was an awakening to God’s Word and His revealed righteousness. This revival then brought forth a rejoicing in God’s salvation. Just ask men like Charles Finney about revival.
True revival takes place when men fall down in repentance at the hearing of God’s Word. As in the Great Awakening, whole towns were transformed- bars closed and churches were planted. The true rejoicing that God wants us to experience can only come through godly repentance. Times like these should cause you to examine your life. There must be a return to God’s Word!Have you forsaken the Word of the Lord? Despised His ways and done your own thing? This is pride my friend. What’s on the altar of your heart and what idols must be crushed? Fall down in repentance and call upon Him. He is mighty to save and faithful to bring about a time of rejoicing!
