I HAD A “FRIEND” years ago that I watch go through other women, be their “best friend” for a time, shun them, then move on to the next. I told myself, “She will never do that to me!” She told me I was her closest and dearest friend.
Guess what? She did. It just took her a little longer to get to me. It was a very painful experience in my life, but lesson learned. If they do it to someone else, they will do it to you. You are not the exception. If they lie, gossip and slander others; they will eventually lie, gossip and slander about you. If they cheat others, they will cheat you. I have to warn women all the time, “She’s a gossip. Be careful.”
Your actions are telling others about YOU. If you talk bad about others all the time, why would I expect that you’re not talking bad about me? If you display your ability to cut off others because of an offense; then I expect that as soon as I offend you, I will be cut off.
Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss and there’s always a Judas in the making. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:12-13
Most people want a close confident and friend that you can trust. You cannot control others’ actions, only your own. What actions are you displaying to others? Do people avoid you? Are your quick to take offense and back bite or quick to forgive? Acquaintances come and go, but a friend sticks closer than a brother.
Yes, we are called to love and be kind to all, but you do not have to be best friends with everyone. Guard your heart and be mindful. Ask God for wisdom in friendships and have discernment in choosing wisely. There are some people the Lord allows to be put into your life so you can minister to their needs and you will receive nothing from that relationship. Yet, there are some people that He allows to come into your life to be a minister to your needs and you will find a lifetime friend. #runyourrace
