“FROWARD” is an old English word, not used too much in modern day language, but used a lot in the book of Proverbs of the King James Bible. Listen to this verse, “A froward man sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends.” Prov 16:28. Newer translations read a “perverse man”, but it doesn’t have the same meaning. The meaning of froward- “habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition; adverse”.
Do you know people that are “froward”? These people are HABITUALLY in opposition and adverse. They may have moments of good, but their adverse nature continues to return. These are the “know-it-all’s”, “I’m right, you’re wrong”, “I’ve done this more than you”, “I know better than you” types. These people sow seeds of strife and discord because you are doing things wrong. They are fault-finders. They have an objection to the way church is ran, your ministry, your parenting, your teaching, or whatever else.
These froward, foolish men are blatantly brash and always speak their mind. But the wise man holds his tongue, knows when to speak and when to be silent. The wise operate in prudence and have trained their tongue to obey the Holy Spirit, and not the sinful flesh. Do you find that people avoid you? Listen to your own words. Nobody wants to be around a habitual fault-finder. Through the Spirit, examine your heart and train your tongue. A fool can become wise. #runyourrace
