IS THE FRUIT OF YOUR LIFE SELF-CONTROL?
“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his [own] spirit than he who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32 The Bible has a lot to say about self-control. It’s a fruit of the Spirit and a LIFE of discipline in righteousness in order to bring glory to God. It’s the ability to overcome sin and all temptation. But like any fruit, self-control must be cultivated. Paul tells us, “Run in such a way to win the prize”! We are in a race and we, like an athlete, must discipline ourselves to run this spiritual race. What are you putting into your spirit? We keep our bodies in subjection by self-control. Are you lifting heavy? We take EVERY thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Are you stretching? We crucify the sinful flesh, daily by saying, “No!” Are you in the gym or on the field? We offer our bodies as a living sacrifice upon His altar. We TRAIN, as an Olympian trains for their event, to run this Christian walk in holiness and righteousness so that at the end of our days we may not be disqualified from the prize. If you live a sloppy life, you will receive sloppy results. If you are lukewarm, you’re in danger of being vomited out. Do take your Christian walk seriously? Everyone around you can see if you’re undisciplined and lack self-control, it produces rotten fruit. YOU are responsible to produce the good fruit of self-control.
