You’ve been so, so good to me
You’ve been so, so good to me
Oh, to think where I would be
If not for You
If not for You
These lyrics from a worship song minister to me so much. As I sit here and reflect on 2019, I am reminded of how good God has been through it all. We often say in church, God is good all the time and all the time God is good. But do we really believe it? Regardless of believing it or not, God is good, and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose for them (Romans 8:28). Not just some things but did you catch that ALL things.
It is so easy to dwell on the bad things of the year. It is easy to think about the struggles and challenges of the year, the financial struggles/job changes, the loss of family/friends, the grind of everyday life, the unanswered prayers. But what I want to challenge you with today is to realize in all these things which we label as bad, God is using for His glory and for our good.
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
Psalm 107:1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Ezra 3:11 With praise and thanks, they sang this song to the Lord:
“He is so good! His faithful love for Israel endures forever!”
Yes, it is all good because He is good! As I am writing this right now, God is bringing to remembrance the things in my life from the year that I have labeled bad and giving them a different label and that is GOOD! I am going to be thankful for it all because regardless of my regrets, fears, and worries God has been there 100% of the time. He alone has been with me every step, He has grown my faith in His plans for my life, increased my dependence on Him alone, He has given me true joy, He has comforted me in my despair, He has healed my body, He has strengthened my relationships, He has equipped me for the day to day, and He has shown me forgiveness. And to think where would I be at the end of this year if I did not have the perspective?
If ever I should lose my way
If ever I deny Your grace
Remind me of the price You paid
Hallelujah
I’ll live in remembrance
Where would I be, if not for You.
