The Greatest Interruption

The greatest interruption (Gospel)                                                      Romans 3:21-26

  • Last week, Pastor Jay spoke about how we are all on a boat/ship – the Titanic (How we choose to be rescued depends on our self-examination
  • Our reading today, reminds us of the steps that were taken before we were born, in order to rescue you and I
  • God knew that we were sinner, that He would have to send His only Begotten Son to die for us
    • That no matter how good, He set us up and provide ways to seek forgiveness, we were still going to depart from the truth
    • He sent His Son, that ….
  • And whoever (no limit) believes in Him will not loose His life but have eternal life
  • William Tyndale – The man who translated the Bible to English: What do we call the Gospel? – it’s a Greek word signifying good, merry, glad, joyful news: that makes man heart glad and makes him sing, dance and leap for joy
  • Romans 3:22- 24 (NLT) – We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
  • God knew that when He created us, we would betray Him, yet He still choose us
    • The idea that He choose us still puzzles me
    • Yet, I believe that His Word is true – Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope
      • We are in a time when the future is dim and hope is diminishing (The Exiled Jews)
    • John 16:20 (Nkjv) Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy
    • John 14:3 – And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also
  • He interrupted sin
  • No one likes to be interrupted – However some interruptions are best:
    • Stop the continuous progress of (an activity or process)
    • Break the continuity of (a line or surface)
  • One of my wife’s and I best interruptions – California to Washington
    • Living the way of the world
    • Going to church
    • Staying as good people
  • And that is what Romans 3:21 (NLT) is talking about that God showed us a way to be made right without keeping the outside rituals – but a true heart change
  • The law – outside acts to doing things yet the heart condition is the same
  • Romans 3:25 ( Ampc) – Whom God put forward [[a]before the eyes of all] as a mercy seat and propitiation by His blood [the cleansing and life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation, to be received] through faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over and ignored former sins without punishment
  • In order to understand forgiveness, we have to remember what we have been saved from
  • What a joy, that my/ our past sins have been passed over by the blood and of Jesus- They have been ignored, without punishment- Hallelujah
  • The Gospel is a mirror: It’s an honest mirror
    • One that allows us, if we are willing to examine, to face our short coming, and know that we are not judged if we repent, know that we can come to the mercy seat and cast down our burdens
    • Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh
    • This is the spiritual transformation promised in the new covenant. Instead of the law working from the outside in, God promised a new heart to work from the inside out.
    • One that can feel, and that can enjoy; that can feel love to God and to all men, and be a proper habitation for the living God.
    • We need to look no further
  • The Gospel exposes us – Romans 3:22 (ampc) Namely, the righteousness of God which comes by believing with personal trust and confident reliance on Jesus Christ (the Messiah). [And it is meant] for all who believe. For there is no distinction, Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory [a]which God bestows and receives
  • We have all sinned, fallen short …from Adam, the many Israelite Kings, Paul, you and I
  • Yet, we are loved by Christ to the point of death
    • It’s important to see how He who died for us see us : Precious, worth saving
  • I praise God that Christ interrupted me, and I wish someone else would praise God that they were interrupted as well
  • Allow interruption in your life
  • God went to a great deal to pay for the price before hand
  • Growing up, there was store that we would just go and pick up whatever you needed – Family had a line of credit established
  • This is what happened here, the price was paid and it’s up to you and I to go up and lay stuff down and pick up peace, redemption, freedom and a guaranteed future with Christ Jesus
  • Billy Story – Christmas eve service – There is deliverance for a young man, and if he wanted to leave addiction at the alter
  • Billy said, he thought of what would happen if he didn’t take this great interrupted moment
  • This evening, you might be at the same place, the Word of God is going through, its messing with your thoughts, an interruption is forming…
  • What are going to do? And if not, what awaits you
  • Redemption – Released from captivity (Billy’s Testimony)
  • Genesis 18:14 – Is there anything too difficult for the Lord?
  • Hebrews 3:15-17 while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?
  •  Matthew 11:28-30 (Ampc ) Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will [a]ease and relieve and [b]refresh [c]your souls.] Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ([d]relief and ease and refreshment and [e]recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome (useful, [f]good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.
  • Go out there and be part of the interruption (Remember that someone interrupted you)
  • The Gospel is shared by people who have experience the redemptive power of Jesus Christ
  • Countless people in the Bible were interrupted and went on to declares the goodness of God
    • Moses – Childhood, Palace life, desert
    • Elisha – Farming, said yes to interruption that he killed the cows and burned the plough
    • The list is endless
  • Mark 16:15 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature [of the whole [a]human race].
  • Billy who is now a barber – uses His chair to tell people about God
  • My family and I have seen tangible transformation – we can’t stop talking about the goodness of God Romans 1:16-17 (Ampc) For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek,For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, the man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith
  • 2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
    • He has left us a helper and a comforter (Holy Spirit)
    • He is our present help in times of need
  •  There is so much noise around us, and if we are not careful, that noise will attempt to drown the song of rejoicing of the redemptive power of Christ Jesus
  • Let’s get back to the basic, allow things of God to saturate our minds, hearts and souls
  • Walk in confidence that God has already installed in you
  • The Power of God is public
    • It’s available, its real, it’s evident – Lets use it to interrupt all these ungodly things in our society
  • Some of us are here, alive, because someone shared the Gospel with us- Someone was courageous enough to interrupt us – Lets do the same for our brothers and sisters
  • Matthew 9:37-38 (Nkjv) Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
    • There are plenty of moments for interruption, but not enough people who are willing to step up and interrupt
    • Go and interrupt and if you can’t today, pray
  • John 3:16-18 (nkjv) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God
