“GOD KNOWS MY HEART” and this should scare some of you. This is a true saying, for God knows all your heart including your motives whether they are pure and true or selfish and evil. However, the following Scripture is not talking about our heart belonging to the Lord, but rather our body:“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
This is that physical part of us, it is literally interpreted as “the physical body” which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Our body belongs to the Lord. This means that we do not own any part of ourselves if we are in Christ. He has the say over what we put on our body, what we put in our body, how we use our body or don’t use our body. It is rebellious to say, “I can do whatever I want with my body.” Not only is sexual immorality sinful, is a grave offense against the temple of the Lord. But there’s so much more included in this knowledge.
My body is not my own and why before I take any kind of medication, I ask the Lord if it’s safe for me. I had an adverse reaction to a prescription drug years ago and still have side effects. The Spirit of God spoke a stern word of “No”, but I didn’t listen. I’m still paying for it. I don’t drink a drop of alcohol because the Holy Spirit told me “No”. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I don’t etch anything on my skin unless I pray and ask His permission. I have asked the Spirit what foods I should eat. Even though we are not under the Jewish laws of food restrictions, there are things that are good for me and things that are bad.
What’s good for you is not good for me. I cannot eat pork. Not because of the law, but because it makes me sick. My husband eats baby back ribs with no problems. I have thrown out clothes that the Spirit has told me not to wear. “This is too much!” You say. To which I ask you, “Was it too much for Jesus to take my sin upon Him? O wretched man that I am! Was it too much that He should die and be resurrected in order to give me the Holy Spirit, that I should not be without a Teacher and a Comforter?” How has this escaped your understanding of Scripture? You are not your own. You were redeemed (bought) by God with the high price of the blood of Jesus. Therefore, your BODY is not your own. Our mandate is to glorify the Lord in and with not only our heart and our mind, and the words of our mouth, but our body. #runyourrace
