THERE IS NO UNITY apart from holiness. There is always talk among the church how Christians must be unified in order to overcome the enemy and the world; and we must be unified. A kingdom divided cannot stand. However, light cannot unite with darkness. I don’t care what you call yourself, a righteous man operates in righteousness because of Him who is righteous.
Holiness leaves clues. We cannot be in unity with anyone who calls himself a brother in Christ and still lives in the world and their sin. We can have no unity with anyone who calls themselves a Christian and rejects God’s holy Word and lawful standards. There is no fellowship with the slanderer that destroys with his mouth.
We can disagree on many things: how one should dress, what translation is best, what foods to eat or not eat, how to run children’s ministry and more. And we cannot let these things divide us! However, there is no unity apart from holiness. “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:5-6
To be like-minded is to have the same thoughts, feelings, sentiments, hopes, and aims. The word used here is translated “with one accord;” as in Acts 1:14. It means unitedly, with one purpose, without contentions, and strifes. Paul said, “we make it our AIM to please Christ”, therefore those in Christ have one aim and one purpose: to be wholly dedicated to the Lord.
He who is wholly self-dedicated to Christ and obeys the Word of God without reservation and who in the strength of that self-dedication is able to endure persecution, affliction, trials, back-biting, slander and the like for HIS sake; will also have a close bond of union with all who set before themselves the same aim. I have no unity, no bond of affection, no purpose outside living to please Christ alone and if this same mind is not in you; we can have no unity. I don’t care what you claim with your mouth; be sure, your sin will find you out. Yes, be at peace, but have NO fellowship with darkness. Holiness leaves a sweet aroma. #runyourrace
