“I am Yours!”???
What does it REALLY mean to say, “I am Yours”?
Worship on Sunday we sang 3 songs that had the lyrics “I am Yours”- Did you know God takes you at your word??
Psalm 119:94 (NKJV)
I am Yours, save me; For I have sought Your precepts.
David said I am Yours and he sought God’s ways to know them and to follow those ways.
I am Yours. DO you mean it? Are these just words? Is this your heart’s cry? What does it really mean to say “I am Yours”?
This idea in Christianity that you live your life, the way you want to live it and do the things you want to do and God will bless it, IS NOT scriptural.
God is not Santa that brings you into relationship with Him in order to meet all your wishes and demands. He is not a spiritual bellhop.
When we lived in the world we were slaves to sin and satan, but when we were born again, Jesus became our Lord and LORD means MASTER.
We subject ourselves to His Lordship and He now has the say so over our life!
- I am Yours means my life brings glory to God.
Psalm 115:1 (NKJV)
Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy,
Because of Your truth
Isaiah 43:7 (NKJV)
Everyone who is called by My name,
Whom I have created for My glory;
I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
The call of Jesus is to die to ourselves and our ways and live unto Him for His purpose and to His glory.
The purpose of my life and your life is to bring glory to God in every area.
The Lord spoke to me concerning this very thing- that we are to bring Him glory in every area of our lives.
1 Corinthians 10:31New King James Version (NKJV)
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
What does this mean to bring Him glory? His glory encompasses the totality of who He is- magnificent, excellent, beautiful, holy, good and pure. It means to honor God.
In short, are you displaying the beauty, magnificence, excellence and purity of the Lord?
Are your words bringing glory to God? Are your words displaying the beauty and majesty of the Lord?
Are your actions bringing glory to God? Are your actions honoring God?
Ex: EVERY AREA! He spoke to me concerning preaching and teaching the Word- the preaching of the Word is meant to affect the hearer in such a way that they would take that word, apply it to their life in such way that would bring glory to God.
- I am Yours means I am dead to sin.
Galatians 5:24 (NKJV)
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Romans 8:9-10 (NKJV)
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Living a life that now belongs to the Lord means that we have turned from a life of sin to a life in Him.
We don’t do what we used to do. We don’t speak like we used to speak.
AND people will not understand
Ex: When I came to the Lord, I did a complete clean out- clothes, music, friends, boyfriend
You have to leave behind your life of sin and DO NOT LOOK BACK! Remember Lot’s wife?
This is not on your own strength, but on the strength of the Holy Spirit. He will help you say no to the things you used to do.
Listen to that conviction! It is from the Lord, He is trying to help you!
- I am Yours means He has complete, 100% say so over my life.
I have relinquished my own thoughts, ways, paths for my life. My life is forfeit.
Philippians 3:8-9 (NKJV)
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
Matthew 16:25-26 (NKJV)
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
IF you are putting your decisions before the Lord, don’t be surprised when He changes your plans.
You can force your way, but being His means you has the right to change your path for His glory.
Ex: My plan for my life were very different than planting a church and being a pastor. Many of you have heard this, but I was going to be a physical therapist. That was my plan and my goal
Just like pastor Matt said on Sunday, you don’t have to agree with His plan, you don’t have to like it or even understand it; He’s asking you to just obey it.
Are you His?? Then he has every right to your life!
He will take your plans into consideration, but if it is not in line with His will, your plans will get nixed.
- I am Yours means that what I am going through right now is ordained by Him.
He owns me and He gets to say what happens and what may come and I am not going to argue with Him about it.
1 Corinthians 6:20 NKJV
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
(no matter what you are going through)
1 Corinthians 3:16 (NKJV)
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
23 And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
I want to encourage you that if YOU ARE HIS, then He is allowing this storm in your life.
He is bringing you through the fiery furnace. Remember Shadrach, Meshach and Abednigo?
He is bringing you through this trial. Remember Daniel in the lion’s den?
What about Job? God ALLOWED Satan to take everything accept Job’s life.
This season in your life is not an accident. It is for His glory!
He knows what you are going through. He cares what you are going through.
He has you and this has already passed through His hands.
He is not up in heaven wringing His hands, “How am I going to get them through this?”
If you are HIS, then you have to believe that this trial has a purpose and His plan is still intact.
- I am Yours means that I do not have to perform for anyone. I do not have to compete with anyone. I do not have to compare myself with anyone. I live for an audience of One.
Romans 14:4 (AMPC)
Who are you to pass judgment on and censure another’s household servant? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he shall stand and be upheld, for the Master (the Lord) is mighty to support him and make him stand.
This should take so much pressure off you to perform for others.
God knows what you are able or not able to do.
He knows all your strengths and all your weaknesses.
He knows when you are working hard and He knows when you are hardly working.
He knows when you have done all you can and He knows when you can do more.
If you have done what He asks of you, rest peaceful in that. PERIOD. He is pleased with you!
You do not have to be me, or Pastor Matt or Jay or Shelly or Todd, or Emily- God doesn’t expect or even want you to be anybody but you.
I think we have a tendency to look at others and think, “I am not doing what they are doing, so God is not pleased with me.” This is a trap and a lie from the enemy!
Ex: ever heard this, “Why can’t you be more like so and so!?” I get compared to other pastor’s wives all the time. I am not like any pastor’s wife I know. I am me. A lot of pastor’s wives don’t preach. Heck, a lot of them do not have much to do with the ministry.
Please do not compare me to anyone and stop comparing yourself to others!
- I am Yours means I trust Him fully to complete what He has started and I wait patiently for Him to fulfill His Word in me.
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon the waters wherever you may call me.” DO you mean it??
Romans 8:14 (NKJV)
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
This is where a lot of people really go crazy, in the waiting patiently part.
The Lord will speak a word to us about our life and His plans and we want to see them immediately.
In my experience, this is not the way God works.
God told Abraham that he would have a child of promise and but he had to wait.
After 15 years of waiting for the promise, God visited Abraham again and assured him that the promise would be fulfilled in due time. It took another 10 years after the reassurance for Abraham and Sarah to give birth to a son who was named Isaac- that’s 25 years for those of you bad at math
Joseph waited 13 years before he came before Pharaoh
Moses waited 40 years
David was told as a child that He would be king, but he had to wait.
David had to wait something like 15 years from the time he was first anointed by Samuel to the time he became king over Judah (as recorded in our text). It was another seven years before David was anointed king over all Israel. This means David waited over 20 years of his life to be made king.
Jesus waited 30 years before He began His ministry
But yet, we want things NOW.
I am Yours means you wait on God. You wait on His perfect timing. You wait on the Spirit to lead you; you do not lead the Spirit.
Ex: there are things in my life that God spoke to me years ago that I am still waiting for Him to fulfill and complete.
Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
He is faithful! He will not leave you incomplete.
EX: Do you keep your word to your kids? I try hard to not say anything to my children a word that I cannot keep. God is not a man that He should lie, He is a great Father and He keeps His Word to His children.
