- Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
- We’re a family that likes to go to Disneyland. Usually tired. Big eat day. Not tired 7000 cals
- You cannot live a life submitted to God without being filled with the spirit. You will not make it
- God did not intend for you to live the Christian life on your own strength and power
- God did not send you out into the abyss having to face the challenges of this world alone
- Did you check the name on the door? Faith and Victory. It’s through Faith that we get the Victory. Faith In Jesus. Reception of his spirit. Walking with him daily.
- Pneuma- a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit,
- Many walk through this Christian life overcome with sin. Marked by Defeat. Filled with pain, misery, depression, inconsistencies and despair. The Holy Spirit came to fill you up!
- There is not one thing that you can do w/o the Holy Spirit. You cannot gather, worship, take up offering, preach, fellowship, witness, pray, learn the Bible, overcome sin, serve, love etc
- Jesus promised the Holy Spirit
- Jo 14:26 called him a helper who would teach, and remind us of his teachings. Jo 15:26 a Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, that will “ testify of Me”. Jo 14:16 that He may abide with you forever—Mat10:20 the Spirit who speaks in you. Mat 28:19 baptizing them in the name the Holy Spirit. Lu 11:13 how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
- Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would be a helper- To help you through this life.
- To be a teacher- Teach you the things of God. To remind you of the teachings of Jesus.
- Jesus PROMISED that the Holy Spirit would be given to his Disciples! An indwelling spirit!
- You ever had a batter go dead? College- car that always died. I needed a new battery!
- Jesus Cautioned against minimizing the holy spirit
- Many people minimize and dismiss the third person of the Trinity. Through bad experiences or bad theology- they turn him into “God’s spirit” and not the third person of the Trinity
- How? Mocking the things of God. Relying on their own strength. Dismissing clear scriptures.
- Mark 3:29 But he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.”
- Matthew 12:32 but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come
- Those are big scriptures! Those should be taken seriously! You better seek to understand the HS
- The Book of Isaiah 63:10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; so He turned Himself against them as an enemy, and He fought against them.
- According to that Scripture, God came against Israel when they rebelled and grieved the HS
- How do you speak of the HS? Do you pray to him, worship him? Revere him? Will you align yourself with the truths of Scripture? The Holy Spirit is God just as much as Jesus and Father
- He’s not some distant cousin with no birthright or place within the godhead. He is GOD
- And he moves, fills and inspires. He speaks and regenerates and fills. He walks and talks!
- The Bible tells us to not quench the spirit
- 1 Thes 5:19-22 Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
- Do you know what quenching is? To put out the light, to cool, to cause to lose heat, to bring something immaterial to an end, to terminate by destroying,
- Is this what the Holy Spirit desires of us? To quench him and his work? To shut him Down?
- Despising prophecies. Not testing all things. Not holding fast to what is Good. Not abstaining.
- Resisting! The Holy Spirit will speak to you for what you should do and you resist!
- Acts 7:51 You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
- Why would you grieve him? He’s who has sealed you until the day of redemption
- He is the mark of your salvation- the truth of your security. The image of your God.
- Eph 4:30 do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
- The Holy Spirit is Central to our faith
- Convicts of Sin: John 16:8: Regenerates/Renews: Ti 3:5: John 3:5-6: Indwells Believers: Ro 8:9 1 cor 2:12 Leads and Guides: Ro 8:14: Empowers for Witnessing and Ministry: Acts 1:8 Teaches and Reminds: Jn 14:26 1 jn 2:27 Produces Fruit: Gal5:22-23: Assures and Seals: Eph 1:13-14
- That’s the work of the Holy Spirit! He’s the one that Does it! Read your Bible! You are a Christian, Saved by Jesus, but it’s the Holy Spirit that is the power within you- Yes, its God and Jesus, but he goes by the Holy Spirit and he is GOD! He’s central to our faith!
- The presence of God, the comfort, the assurance, the love, the power, it’s the HOLY SPIRIT
- I like being married, I just don’t like having to deal with my spouse
- But how? How do we receive and retain this power to live this life on earth? How do we overcome sin and walk worthy of our calling? How do we live the victorious life?
- I think there’s lots of people within the Church and Christianity that don’t walk in victory
- More time online than in the spirit. More time talking to people. More time being busy.
- How to Walk in the spirit
- Walk in the spirit
- You can’t walk in the spirit that you don’t have- if you don’t have JC, HS don’t have you.
- This is a promise for believers- If you don’t believe in Jesus, this isn’t something to buy or sell
- You need to repent from your sins and receive the spirit of Christ. Be filled and redeemed NOW

- John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water- This living water is the water of the HS- the indwelling power of the resurrection!
- The Holy Spirit promises to set you free and that freedom only comes through SURRENDER
- The bondage and sin of this world is debilitating. The sin and shame. Receive CHRIST
- 2 Co 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
- Ro 8:2 the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
- 1 Peter 4:6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
- The Gospel- The good news- is that Jesus Christ came to save sinners- Believe, repent, be filled!
- The Holy Spirit promises to give you LIFE- when You come to Jesus- you LIVE
- This is the ‘new life’ the ‘born again’ the ‘new creation’ and ‘living water’
- This life that Jesus promises and promised through faith in HIM lets you actually LIVE
- John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 2 Cor 3:6 the Spirit gives life.
- I have bad days- but not that often. I know who’s I am and who I am- I have new life in Christ
- The Holy Spirit promises to give you a Renewed Heart when you turn from sin
- God has not, and will not set you into this world on your own- You are FILLED and CHANGED
- Je 31:33b will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Eze 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them an heart of flesh:
- The Holy Spirit promises No more thirst- a supernatural satisfaction in HIM
- Have you ever been really thirsty? Horrible- bad planning. Mission- bunch of people dropped.
- Isaiah 44:3: “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.”
- Joel 2:28 I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
- Don’t you want that spirit filled life? Don’t you want life more abundantly? To have it all?
- Don’t walk in the flesh
- How? How do I do this? Is it on my strength- No- no its not, but you have a role to play.
- You cannot put yourself in the situation to succumb to sins of the flesh and blame God for not being able to walk in the spirit. You fill your house. You choose your recreation. You spend your money, choose your friends. You set your schedule. No one else does this its. YOU
- “Satan is really getting me” you have no guardrails! You have no limits!
- There has to be things you don’t watch, places you wont go, people you wont hang w etc.
- Galatians 5:19-21 READ
- Adultery- Not your spouse. Fornication- Any sexual immorality. Uncleanness- General dirtiness of life. Lewdness– acting contrary to cleanness. Idolatry- worshipping something else. Sorcery- False religions Hatred- Hating anyone Contentions- Always fighting Jealousies- Upset with others stuff Outbursts of wrath– Being verbally angry. Selfish ambtions- Working angles for YOU Dissensions and heresies- Leaving good doctrine. Envy- Hating others success. Murders, getting drunk, Crazy parties, and the like. And the like- Stuff Christians just shouldn’t do.
- YOU MUST Crucify the flesh
- Galatians 5:24-25 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
- I intermittently fast. I do full fasts. I exercise. I do ice baths. I force myself into discomfort
- Because when I do that- controlling the other parts of my flesh come easier.
- If you want to walk in the spirit- Do not fulfill the lust of the flesh
- Gal 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
- All that fleshly stuff wants to be fulfilled and you need to FIGHT IT AT EVERY TURN.
- You give it a little, and it takes it for all its worth. “no one can eat just one” its TRUE whole bag
- Some people don’t fight- they just live
- Do not live according to the flesh- have DISCIPLINE
- Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
- Do you just do whatever you feel like? Do you just follow your fleshly desires?
- Do not sow to the flesh- discipline translates to other areas. Gal 6:8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
- The flesh is lazy. Its angry. Its self seeking. You must control this body! Have a schedule!
- Make no provision for the flesh
- The worst language is ‘I’m just a sinner’ and “I’ll always be like this” NO- I WANT TO WIN
- Romans 13:13-14 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (What you say, think, do, desire,) PUT ON JESUS
- Abstain from fleshly lusts
- I don’t know what you can handle, but get rid of phone, tv, magazines, whatever it takes
- 1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
- Be Filled and Baptized
- I’m not getting into the full explanation today because this is a division between Christians
- This is true- You have the HS when you get saved. The HS is God. According to the book of Acts, many people had been baptized in Christ and not received ‘the baptism of the Holy Spirit’
- The greatest difference you see after the BofHS is power. Weak disciples became strong.
- The book of Acts echoes and displays the promises of the OT and Jesus and are promises for today. If you don’t have the fullness of the Holy Spirit- have hands laid on you. This is bible way
- Acts 1:5: “For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit
- Acts 2:1-4: READ
- There are theological divides, but Acts is clear- Some spoke in tongues after, some didn’t. Holy Spirit came through laying on of hands and through the preaching of the word.
- What DID change is the persons life after the baptism of HS. They were not the same person.
- Go read the book of acts and my notes Acts 8:17 Acts 9:17-18 Acts 10:44 Acts 11:15 Acts 19:6
- People were different after this baptism. Its clear that people received it.
- Some people say this was only for the apostles, but 3000 at Pentecost and then more in acts
- The normative experience in the book of acts was the BofHS.
- Pray- Lord- Give me this power from on high. Baptize me Holy Spirit. Fill me with your power
- Why would Paul repeatedly tell people to be filled, walk, and live in a Holy Spirit that they could not possess and be filled with? What power would their be to the Christian life?
- Ephesians 3:14-19 READ THIS IS WHAT YOU GET-
- Strengthen with might through his spirit in the inner man- Strength for Today
- Dwell in your hearts- The power of the Holy Spirit living inside of YOU
- May be able to comprehend with all the saints-Understanding and being connected
- To know the love that passes knowledge- This deep biblical love
- That you may be filled with all the fulness of God- FILLED with the FULLNESS
