Justice to Victory

  • Matthew 12:15-21
  • Jesus just gets done preaching on the sabbath and then he tries to get away, many follow him, he heals them, and then he warns them to not make him knows to fulfill prophecy
  • This is beginning to show the turning of the story towards crucifixion. Jesus knew what was going to happen- so he was telling his followers to cover for him.
  • We, as Christian people are going through the hardest time I have seen in my life
  • A time where our faith is being tested more than any other time in the past 30 years
  • The fulfilment of the prophecy of Isaiah towards Jesus is a promise fulfilled that gave those earliest disciples hope, and it should give us hope as well. ”Till He sends forth justice to victory”
  1. God chose Jesus- God chose you for Victory
  • V18 Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!
  • It was God’s design and plan that he would choose Jesus, send Jesus, be Jesus, redeem the world. “Till He sends forth justice to victory;”
  • This has been God’s plan since the beginning of time- “let us make man in our own image”
  • Part of making sense of this world is the understanding that God is working out his plan
  • Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
  • Jesus is the plan- God sent his son (himself) to redeem the world- this should give you hope
  • Romans 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
  • In due time! People went 700 years without hearing from God- and here he is! God chose him
  • What does it mean to you
  • If God chose Jesus, and is running the show- then God chose you! And that means VICTORY
  • You’ve heard the “before I formed you in the womb I knew you” and “the plans I have for you”
  • And that’s true! It may not be what you expect it to be or what you want it to be- but he chose you! And that should give you a measure of hope in this hopeless world to know he chose you!
  • Ephesians 1:4-5 READ just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
  • That means- before the earth was created- God knew that you would exist- that he would call you and you would live for him- You’re not just some cog in massive wheel- God KNOWS you
  • 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, –
  • Man- I hold on to that- I’m SPECIAL- The God of the universe chose ME- I don’t think I’m better than anyone- but I sure am glad whose I am- I am HIS- He owns me and I LOVE IT
  • I have sat in situations- thought- ‘how did I end up here’ Because he CHOSE ME FOR VICTORY
  • John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him;
  • Romans 8:29 John 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you
  • Deuteronomy 7:6 SAYS a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.
  • Are you reflecting on that? Are you letting that minister to you? Because its TRUE- VICTORY
  1. Jesus had the spirit of God- you have the spirit of God for Victory
  • “I will put My Spirit upon Him” is the promise of Isaiah and the fulfillment found in “this is my son in whom I am well pleased’ and ‘ the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove’
  • John 1:32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
  • The Trinity- Father, Son, Holy Spirit are 3 in 1. They are the Godhead and work in concert
  • Jesus worked through the power of the Holy Spirit while he was on this Earth. How it worked.
  • But Jesus didn’t expect that we would walk through life through our own power- no way
  • We needed and need the Holy Spirit to be able to walk on this earth We NEED YOU HOLY SPIRIT
  • Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
  • When we cry out to God in faith, we receive the spirit of adoption and his SPIRIT to help us
  • Rom 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
  • 1 Cor 3:16 Says the Spirit of God dwells in you
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 Says we’re the temple of the HS and that he lives in each one of us
  • John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
  • Walk in THAT truth- walk in knowing that the creative power of God himself- that raised Jesus from the dead, created the earth, heals the sick and raises the dead is the same spirit that lives inside of each and every one of you.
  • This living for Jesus is a robust life changing walking with the creator existence-
  • How can you NOT be victorious when the spirit of God rests in you?
  • Ezekiel 36:26-27 READ A NEW HEART- A POWER FROM ABOVE
  • Faith car- clink clink clunk- high octane- no more clunk- vrm vrm. On that HS Juice
  1. Jesus job was declare Justice- your job is declare justice to Victory

“And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.”

  • This word Justice- so over used in the world today- so many think of the worlds definition and not the Lord’s definition- biblical justice is the justice of God himself.
  • God alone decides what is right and what is wrong because sinful man always changes what they believe to be true. Mans justice may periodically line up with God, but man changes God don’t. – God’s justice will bring forth VICTORY
  • This word of justice here tho- may be wrongly used based on the actual Greek definition.
  • kree’-sis (for or against);  a tribunal; by implication justice (specifically divine law): – accusation, condemnation, damnation, judgment.
  • Biblical justice is a condemnation upon a persons actions or beliefs and being held accountable before God and his holy standard.
  • Jesus didn’t come to make the wrong things right. He came to condemn everyone who wasn’t doing things God’s way. It wasn’t distributive reconciliatory civic justice that righted the wrongs of economics, housing, health and representation. That’s not biblical justice
  • Biblical justice is simply- you are wrong if you don’t live according to God’s word. Change.
  • And this was Jesus mission- to come and declare judgment to the Gentiles (and Jews) that they had turned from God and they were to turn back to him in repentance.
  • What does it mean to you
  • Preach Justice- and the Justice is that you can be free from the penalty of Sin through Jesus
  • 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
  • Titus 2:15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
  • This is our calling- if you aren’t seeing fruit in your life from your evangelistic efforts, it might be that you’re using the wrong approach. Yes God loves you, but without Jesus you’re an offense. Preaching a better life isn’t preaching. Preaching a Victorious life is preaching
  • Titus 1:13 says to  rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
  • 1 Thess 5:14 says to warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak
  • I get it- its not the easiest approach, but as the spirit leads and opens doors, letting someone know they are an offense to God and in need of a savior stays with the spirit of what Jesus did and we want to walk in that.
  • The Bible encourages rebukes to get people back to where they need to be
  • Always in love- but confrontational nonetheless. Some just like confrontation, but most don’t
  • There’s been many people I’ve had to confront and with sorrow I say “God is not pleased with you” but get back to where you need to be and you see that victory over sin
  • I come the school of thought that a little bit of fear goes well to keep you in check. Many don’t ascribe to this- but I do
  • Do things the bible way- 1 Tim 5:20 Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.
  • If I was getting rebuked publicly it would fear me into submission. And submission is victory
  1. Jesus didn’t quarrel- you don’t quarrel
  • 19 He will not quarrel nor cry out, Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
  • Fulfillment of Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,Yet He opened not His mouth;
  • He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
  • Jesus was not a rebel-rouser. He didn’t go looking for fights and he wasn’t one to quarrel
  • He spoke up- he said what was needed to be said but he never instigated a quarrel- not his nature- he was a meek man who let his words and actions be what they were
  • There’s a fine line between truth and being quarrelsome. Jesus knew this balance- this is Jesus walking out the scriptures that were prophesied about him and not being quarrelsome-
  • He didn’t even fight crucifixion- he gave himself up to it “obedient even unto death”
  • What does it mean to you
  • I think people want to win. Be victorious- not sport, but board games, sales, traffic etc.
  • So when it comes to quarrels everything feels like a win or lose ‘I’m not gonna lose’
  • As Christian people- we should be peace makers- not grudge holders, arguers and belligerent
  • Years ago- someone got mad at Crystal- asked for meeting- refused- left the church- ok outcome, but we don’t have division between each other and then refuse to meet and talk
  • If you’re holding something towards someone in this church, meet with them and make right
  • Colossians 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, [a]clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
  • These are real scriptures that really apply to you in this church
  • Folks we are in some perilous times and we don’t need to be fighting among ourselves on the ark. IT doesn’t end well. The enemy is out there- Its not in here
  • If you’re fighting in your marriage- it needs to stop. Fix it. Fix the problems in your relationships.
  • Figure out why you’re so upset and deal with it. Quit taking out your frustrations on everyone else. Go to the Cross- let Jesus work it out- let it be for his Glory. Win in HIM
  • I’m sorry for your past. But that isn’t an excuse to be a jerk to your spouse or me for that matter. Figure out YOUR problems.
  • 1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
  • Jesus doesn’t break people- you don’t break people
  • 20 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench,
  • The love of Jesus is so precious that he wont break people who are on the edge- he loves them back to the place of completeness. He takes care of them
  • Its easy to destroy someone in a fight- very easy- don’t go that route- never said anything to my wife that I regret and the same that shes done for me. We hate fighting.
  1. Jesus will eventually win- you will eventually win
  • Till He sends forth justice to victory; 21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”
  • This Justice that he is going to send forth and has sent forth is the victory that overcomes the world- the victor that we have in Christ Jesus to overcome sin and live eternally.
  • Choosing you, Spirit in you, Declaring Justice, Not fighting, His JUSTICE IS VICTORY
  • We are the fruit of this promise- we are the ones who are experiencing this victory.
  • And it may not look like the worlds- but its ABOVE IT- We look at we KNOW THE VICTORY
  • 1 Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Through Jesus we can go through anything that this world goes through and still be victorious
  • There are many ways we can be- and it may not be deliverance- it might be sustaining power through the struggle but its still a victory that we get to share in Christs suffering.
  • Romans 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
  • MORE THAN CONQUERORS- We can overcome this! We can have joy through this! We can get through this and we will get through this- we’re not being physically crucified yet- it’ll be fine
  • Man with the lentils- if you bowed to the king you’d get more- if you required less you’d eat it
  • 2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
  • Remind yourself of our future triumph over this- talked to a man who lost his wife of 52 years bc of covid- said he knows if he tried to bring her back from heaven she’d be mad.
  • Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
  • John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
  • Let me share with you my reading from Friday in Job 5:17-27
  • Those are some promises that I’m holding onto- I will be victorious through this I know it
  • Wrestling- wanted that lettermans jacket- lost every match with a smile- I knew I won.
