LIGHT

LIGHT

WALKING IN THE LIGHT. Scripture says there are only two kinds of people- those who walk in accordance with the light of the Holy Spirit and those who continue on in darkness; those who walk in righteousness and those who continue to live in sin.

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” I John‬ ‭1:6-7‬ ‭

I hear many Christians proclaim, “I cannot overcome this.” To which I answer, “you are choosing to not overcome”. When you say that you cannot overcome a sin, a fear, a circumstance; you are really saying that the blood of Christ is not powerful enough. You are choosing to live by your emotions and your emotions are faulty.

Perhaps you are not walking in accordance with the light? What do I mean? Those who are born again of the Spirit of God walk according to the Spirit and the Word; not the dictates of the flesh (sinful nature, feelings, emotions, fear). A fleshly, lukewarm Christian walks in darkness and deceives herself into thinking she is good. Why are you so fearful? What sin has its grips in you? Who has deceived you into living like a victim of your past, your flesh or your current circumstance?

When my son was a sophomore in high school he went with me to pick up my daughter, who was in Junior high at that time. Watching all the junior high kids come out of school, he says to me, “Mom, they all look so young!” I told him he looked just like them when he was that age. “No way!” He replies. So, we get home and he looks at his old year book and exclaims, “Mom! I looked so young!” Yep. You sure did son.

Like my son, I think we forget what we used to look like in junior high. We forget what we looked like before the Lord saved us. We forget the great work God has already done in us. Where He has brought us to and what He delivered us from. King David often reflected on what God had done in His life personally and in the lives of the children of Israel.

“You caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water, but You brought us out into a broad, moist place [to abundance, refreshment and the open air].” Ps 66:12

Now, I’m not telling you to dwell on your past or your past mistakes and sins, but I am telling you that it is beneficial to remember the mighty work that God has done in your life. It is beneficial to encourage yourself in the Lord. You can get so caught up in not being where you want to be, that you forget how far He had brought you.

Get out that year book. Remember how He has blessed you. Remember where He found you. Remember how He adopted you and plucked you out of the muck. He washed you whiter than snow and set you upon a Rock so that you should not be moved. He lifted you up in the presence of your enemies. Remember the mighty work He has done in you. Then tell me again what cannot be overcome now.

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭7‬:‭12‬ ‭

Thus far, He has helped you. Will He that formed the sun and moon not take care of you? Why have you let the enemy control your mind? What cowardly thoughts victimize your thinking? Stop throwing yourself a pity party and arise in the name of the Lord. Trade in that garment of depression for His garment of praise and beauty. No foe can stand against His blood. No sin, no fear, no past failure can stand against His blood. Stop allowing the enemy to trample all over you. Satan is not going to stop, you have to submit your thoughts and ways, resist him and then he will flee. You have to take authority in the name of Jesus. Rise up and walk in the courage of His light and glory.

“Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭60‬:‭1‬-‭2‬
