I SEE LUKEWARM PEOPLE and they don’t even know they are lukewarm. Yep, I stole another movie line. It is very concerning and grieving to me that Jesus actually had to tell the congregation in Laodicea that they were lukewarm. They didn’t even know it. They could not discern their own spiritual condition because they really thought they were good. Pay attention. “Because YOU SAY, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—” Revelation 3:17
Lukewarmness was a secondary condition of a deeper issue. The church deceived themselves into thinking because they were rich in spiritual things (the riches in this passage has a double meaning, as in most of Revelation) that they were good with God. It was a self governing church. In fact, Laodicea means “judgment of the people”. They were apathetic because they believed they were secure. They dictated their own time time and schedule, their motto was: “We will do what we want, just let us be called by Your name.”
Sound familiar? It’s the modern day church. You live life according to your schedule, and because God is good and has gifted you with all spiritual goodness and gifting; you say, “I am secure!” But you are in a bad, wretched state. You are so deceived, you can’t even smell your own stink. Jesus is calling you to repent and return in full mourning and He will wash and restore you. He that has ears to hear, hear what the Spirit says to the church. #runyourrace
