Christian Marching Orders 1 Kings 2:1-4

• We- as the Christian church must endure until the return of Christ. That’s our main mission.
• David is wanting to impart into Solomon some solid truths to sustain him as he takes over Kingship and ensure that the throne is filled while they wait for messiah.
• Solomon wasn’t a perfect king. He did some good- wealth, land, influence Some bad- Making deals with Egypt and not fully trusting God
• But I don’t want to point to Solomons life as the example this morning- I want to focus in on What David challenged Solomon with– Maintain Israel until messiah comes
• The main point is this- do the right things and good things will happen and kings will reign in Israel. Keep your eye on the prize. Don’t lose focus. Don’t be a dirtbag.
• David told Solomon what to do- it was good and righteous and God glorifying.  The outcome of Solomons life is irrelevant to our message this morning. The question is on you- will YOU be obedient to what you know that God has told YOU to do.   

1. Get saved- You have to be part of the family of God-
2.  few types of people in this church this morning- the saved- the lost and the I think I’m saved.
3. If not repented and turned from your sins and received Christ’s forgiveness you’re not saved.
4.  Quit lying to yourself thinking that you’re going to heaven for any reason other than Jesus
5. Now John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
6. If you’re not a believer in Jesus- and haven’t repented from your sins- the Bible says that God’s wrath is on you. He’s not pleased with you. He is upset with how you’re living. You need to turn
7. In every Church in America there are people who ‘play church’. Love the songs. The people.
8. Right now- be honest with God and yourself- If you haven’t repented- TURN TO GOD
9. Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
10. Admit that you’re a sinner that needs a savior-  Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
11. Confess- Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
12. Repent! Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord

• Be a part of the church- Keep his statues
• When David told Solomon to ‘keep his statutes’ theres a message there-
• Christian people have statutes of God that we need to keep- Gathering together for worship- fellowship- discipleship-giving-serving-
• But if you’re saved- if you call yourself a Christian- you need to make being at church a priority
• Hebrews 10:24-25 READ not forsake the gathering
• We are living in perilous times- if we’re not part of the church- we’re not going to make it.
• Watching people get involved in other stuff- you can find love at a bar- do what they do
• If church is a ‘have to’ I question your salvation. I wonder if you truly love Jesus or if its something else. You shouldn’t have to convince someone to come to church.
• Make a commitment to make this your last church. Quit shopping. Be committed!
• How can you walk out this verse if you aren’t a part of a local church? You cant!
• 1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
• God has given you gifts that he wants to use in your life to lead other people to HIM
• Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
• Be in church every week. Tithe- It’s the way that God supports his church. Invite people to church. Serve at church. Help out. Invite people. Protect her. Defend her. Hold her in high regard. She is Christs bride.

• Trust your pastor- don’t worship him- trust him
• The life of David is shown that even tho Saul wasn’t perfect- David still submitted unto God
• Easy for him to tell his son to submit because he was submitted
• As a pastor, I can’t begin to describe to you the amount of emotional pain I’ve experienced
• Not self- serving to teach you respect- taught my children respect. How else would you know?
• People questioning my motives, my heart, my intentions, my theology, my family
• If you don’t love me- its easy- leave my church- people do it all the time
• But if this is your church- I am your pastor. Walk out the scriptures that go with it
• Pastor- Hebrews 13:7   Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.
• Judge me by my fruit- you think I’m godless- stone me or leave me- not death by thousand cuts
• This is the promise that God has for us- it was prophetic- he would give us pastors to guide us
• Jer 3:15 And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.
• This is a gift from God himself- He gave them to the church
• Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
• Why? To build up the body of Christ! To maintain the bride!
• Hebrews 13:17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
• What doI ask you to do? Live clean? Tithe? Serve? Love each other? Be nice? JERK!!!!

• Grow up- own your spirituality
• David was a warrior- he expected his son to be a warrior. He fought lions, bears, goliath
• I’m not trying to kick my kids out sooner than they need to be- stay and build a foundation
• But at some point- you gonna get out- and you are going to pay your own bills
• 1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
• What is acceptable when you’re an kid isn’t when you’re an adult- (twirling around in store)
• Even Jesus grew! Maybe you should grow up too!
• Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
• That’s Jesus- I’m just a man!
• 1 Samuel 2:26 And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men.
• As Christians- we need to be progressing in our spirituality
• Sometimes you don’t need to pray about it- you just need to be about it.
• Been praying about if I should serve in that ministry, tithe, pray, read, stop a sin
• Haven’t we covered this? Pastor comes in from out of town- “he told us to love each other”
• Hebrews 5:12-13 if you need milk you’re a baby
• If you are the same spiritually as you were when you got saved you’re a baby
• Does that offend you? Im honest with my kids- son not being qb- its because you didn’t practice
•  Can we just be Christian people who know the truth and want to grow spiritually?
• Do we have to deal with the same sins over and over?
• Phil 3: ¹² Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

• Take this thing seriously
• People don’t take their faith seriously anymore
• You shouldn’t marry a spouse, take a job, buy a house or car, raise your kids in such a way that it will deeply affect your spirituality
• My dad- world record holding weight lifter- mon-thur for 65 years. Very very strong- whole life has been built around it. So is the 9 wives he’s had. And the broken relationship with kids/God
• He’s lived his whole life for himself and he going to end his whole life for himself.
• But what about my kids?
• Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
• Quit serving the gods of work, school, sports, scouting, clubs, friends etc etc.
• I don’t care if my kids are great at sports- I care if my kids Go to heaven!
• Who’s life are you living?
• John 12:25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
• IF you want to see the best that Jesus has to offer- lose your life in him!
• Guy at church- owned expensive business- got in way of spiritual walk- sold it.
• He was losing his family- losing his spirituality-
• Change your friends, change your plans, change whatever you need to to take this seriously.
• Philippians 3:8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
• There is nothing more important that a walk with Christ. Nothing. Your salvation is everything.
• Are you ready to take it seriously? Make a declaration to God?
• Who needs to make a decision to follow Christ today?
• Who needs to make a line in the sand?
