HE WHO LACKS THESE things is blind. The second letter of Peter is hard hitting. He tells these believers more than three times that it’s his job to remind them to be diligent to make their salvation sure. For if they do what he tells them, they will never stumble and fall. “But as a dog returns to his vomit, the fool returns to his folly”, Peter says, “BE DILIGENT” in your Christian walk!
Your enemy seeks whom he may devour. Satan looks for the negligent one. Beware of false teachers and scoffers who deliberately twist God’s Word and willfully forget the truth of Scripture in favor of their own experiences. These false teachers train their hearts in covetous practices and entice unstable, negligent souls. They speak great, swelling words of emptiness and allure through lewdness those who have actually escaped the pollution of the world, drawing them back into perdition. This is serious business. Satan takes no pity on his victims.
You must be diligent to know and study God’s holy Scriptures and to safeguard the authority and inerrancy of the Word. Forgetfulness implies negligence. Do not be negligent by forsaking the corporate church service. Do not be negligent to pray with clean hands and a pure heart. Do not be negligent to grow in your faith, “add to your faith, virtue and to virtue, knowledge”. Do not be negligent to serve the brethren and honor His holy name. Do not be negligent in pursuing holy conduct and godliness. Keep your mouth. Be diligent to be found in Him without spot, and blameless. Sounds to me like we have a job to do in crucifying our flesh while we are on this earth.
We must guard our ears and sharpen our eye sight, so we are not considered to be blind. God will do His part! He has already given us everything we need to fight this flesh battle, but you’ve got to put His tools to use. Negligence is laziness. It will not be a valid excuse on the day of judgment. “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;” II Peter 3:17 #runyourrace
