- No More questions
- You ever been around a kid that asks a bunch of questions? Gets old pretty fast. My kids
- Dad-dad-dad. It’s one thing to be inquisitive, its another to question what I can do
- There has to be a point where these kids just realize that dad is going to take care of it.
- Jesus is back again with the questions towards the pharisees. Remember- the goal of Matthew is to establish that Jesus is messiah to a Jewish audience- This is a reoccurring theme in this Gospel- if we’ve covered it before, its because Matthew has covered it before, so we need to hear it again. You never need to stop hearing that Jesus is God. It is central to what we believe
- Jesus is God. He is not a good moral teacher, he is not the lesser deity than the father, he is not lesser than father, he is God. He was at creation. He is the God at Sinai and the Red Sea. He is the God of Genesis to Revelation. He is alive. He lives in you and he lives in me.
- What is going on here is that Jesus is trying to convince these Pharisees by using their own convictions to show them that He is in fact God.
- He uses Psalm 110 because to them, this is the most important messianic Psalm. They referenced it often and it is referenced often in the Gospels. So he uses it to convince them
- READ Psalm 110 Few things to point out from this Psalm-
- V1 LORD and Lord you’ll probably notice in your scripture, that the font is different its because its in reference to LORD being God and Lord being messiah.
- So Jesus is asking them- How is it that you’ve always believed that Messiah would come through the line of David, but never noticed that David calls his own offspring God?
- The answer? He couldn’t unless Messiah was God- He wasn’t merely a military man of valor
- How could he sit at the right hand? V1. V4 Says he’s a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek
- Who is Melchizedek? The priest of the God most high- READ Genesis 14:18-20
- Now, Psalm 110 says Messiah will be a high priest PS 110:4 The Lord has sworn And will not relent, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
- And then Hebrews says- Heb 7:17 For He testifies: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
- And then Heb 7:3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.
- What Matthew is recording, Psalm 110 says and Hebrews reiterates is that Jesus is the one referenced in Psalm 110 and is the High Priest Melchizedek. I believe in OT, Heb and NOW
- Who else is without father and mother or genealogy? Without beginning of days or life?
- No one can answer where Melchizedek comes from in Gen 14. We know he always was, that Abraham met him and paid him tithe before the Law and Moses. We know that David prophesied that Messiah would be him and Hebrews echoes that Jesus is him
- All we can conclude based on all scripture and this one specifically is that Jesus is God.
- How else can he be at the right hand of God? 110:5 The Lord is at Your right hand;
- He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.110:6 He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries.
Only Jesus is God- And He’s telling it to these Pharisees. - John 10:30 I and My Father are one.” John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
- Only Jesus! Why is the deity of Jesus so important? Why Does he tell the Pharisees this
- Only Jesus can forgive sins. Hebrews 9:22.
- Jesus is about to go the Cross and shed his blood for the sins of humanity and he’s trying to tee up the pharisees so that they’ll know that Jesus has the power to Forgive sins-
- And we must believe it! We must believe that is who he says that he is! He paid for our sins!
- Where does a walk with Jesus begin? John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
- You must believe this- you must put your faith in this that Jesus DID go to the cross and shed blood for your sins! And only God could accomplish this- we couldn’t do it on our own
- Only Jesus shed blood for us by dying on the cross and since he was the only one who was sinless “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” Ephesians 1:7
- This whole scripture is explaining to the Pharisees that Jesus is messiah, and God and of the line of David because Jesus prophesied that His bloodline would be messiah and he would be LORD

So what does that mean to you?
- Well- Matt 22:46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.
- “did anyone dare question him anymore” This is the throw-down verse- “I’m God”. Any other questions? At that point- there’s not much else that can be said- is there?
- Since Jesus is God- Quit questioning him pharisees! And quit questioning him- US
- Now- I’m not saying asking God questions is bad- I’m saying it’s bad to always be questioning JC
- If you have put your Faith in JC, why all the ?s? Why the lack of Faith?
- Macho-mucho- “enough with the questions”- When does it just turn to full trust?
These are basic- but prophetically, I know that there are people here who are bound
What are these questions?- Here’s a few the HS will put more on you
- Am I forgiven?! Quit questioning! IT IS FINISHED Its already been taken care of NOW
- This seems to be a constant one I’m talking with people about during my ministerial duties
- Either- am I really saved, or has what I’ve done made it impossible to be saved?
- The problem with this question is that you never truly rest in your salvation and you don’t get to enjoy the everlasting life that Jesus promises. You got the easy yoke and the light burden
- Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
- Its like if you have a job and you wonder every day if you’re going to get fired or if your spouse is going to leave you- you can’t live in that constant fear- its not godly.
- Luke 12:8 “Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.
- You need to learn to rest in that- Read scriptures that encourage you in your faith, pray, and submit to God until you rest in the reality of your salvation
- Acts 16:31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
- Believe that he is God! Believe that he is at the right hand of God and that he is a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek! He’s sitting at the right hand of the father interceding for you right NOW! He lives to intercede for the saints! He’s praying for you, and watching over you. He’s sustaining you! He can do this BC he is GOD- a supernatural savior!

Another big question- Will I be provided for?
- Most people at some point, give themselves over to the idea that they are going to have to go without- It manifests in many ways- lack of trust, hoarding, miserly, lack of generosity etc.
- I’m specifically addressing this to combat news and people who preach fear and scarcity.
- I must take care of myself first- because I am not sure if I will be taken care of in the future
- We’ve talked about this before- but its something that we need a constant reminder on
- Because the question- “Lord, will you provide” QUIT- pray “give us this day our daily bread”
- Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread
- In all of my life of being a Christian- I have NEVER and I mean NEVER seen a person who was walking with God not be taken care of through every circumstance. I’ve never seen them hungry, homeless, despondent or destroyed. I’ve seen people go through stuff- but I’ve seen them go through it with a supernatural power that gives them ‘hope that makes no sense’
- Now I’ve seen lukewarm do nothing, bottom of the barrel, skim by, Christians in name only, bare minimum people loose it all and then say God did it- but that wasn’t God.
- 2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
- An abundance- There we are with the road with two ditches- poverty and lack, and excess and greed- How about right on the top of the mound where you don’t have to worry about where your next meal will come from or if you are going to sleep on the street?
- Maybe not an air conditioned dog house and a gold toothbrush- but a belief in the power of GOD to sustain you and take care of you through every Season!
- Matthew 6 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
- You are valuable! Jesus, the God of this universe- the one who did the loaves and fishes, casting of the nets, walk on water, heal the sick raise the dead will take care of YOU. He WILL I know it
- One of my favorite stories is the P Jay les schwab to ff story
- Then when I went full time- he’s the one testifying- God takes care of his own! Walk by faith!

Phil 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Which begs the question-
- Why Should I worry? What is there in my life that hasn’t moved through the hands of God that he cannot handle? Answer? Nothing. Not one thing at all
- We don’t have to worry! We don’t have to live in that way at all- Wasted time on Worry
- QUIT Questioning- God will you protect and provide? Will I make it? Will you sustain?
- If you pay attention around you- and I want to encourage you through this- everything around you is changing. Gas prices, interest rates, home values, job situations, whatever.
- We are the people of God. We are on the inside, not the outside, we are the head and not the tail. Everything and everyone around you may crumble. People around you may die. But you will be kept safe. Why? Because There is nothing this world can do to you if you are in Christ.
- Who can testify that God got us through Covid? Who had supernatural provision during a time when everyone else was worried? Who had ravens drop from the sky with food?
- Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
- Talk to him about it! Pray about it- Worship through it- Worrying is just an indication that you’re not trusting God through the storm. You’re looking at your circumstances, or your not trusting what you already know and see-
- You’ve lost sight of who you are, and whose you are and what you are.
- You’re focusing too far into the future- Car on road you have never been on before- go slow- curvy road you know in the dark? Speed- because you trust because you’ve been there!
- SO HAS GOD- He has seen your tomorrow, seen your end, seen your struggles. Hes THERE
- 1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
- But how do you do that? Find scriptures- meditate on them. Pray the promises of God. Realize that God has Got you. Get encouraged by others-
- But part of that, is the honesty to look into your situation and realize who is doing what
- You can have chance happen to you- that happens- But if your fingerprints are on your destruction- realize its you and not that God isn’t God- He’s gracious- he’ll give you grace- but are you creating anxiety needlessly because you aren’t managing the parts of your life that can be managed? Are you making more work for God instead of Trusting?
- Worried about money and you don’t budget. Health and don’t take care of it. Job but you don’t work hard. Loving something too much that you’re afraid to lose it. Putting your trust in wrong thing. Avoiding the things of God instead of leaning into them.
- Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
- Sometimes you need the word! Call up a friend and tell them- I need a GOOD word. I NEED IT
- I have been in church- heard and word and walked out encouraged! Excited for what God does!
- Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
- Do you believe that this morning? Are you walking in worry or in faith?
- You’re going into thanksgiving week- have some thanksgiving. Be thankful for what you have
- But don’t spend time questioning God- You can inquire of him, but stop asking if you’re really saved, You will be provided for. quit worrying about stuff and put it in God’s Hands.
- I am thankful for you. I’m thankful for this church. I’m honored to be your pastor
- Remind yourself- Jesus is God- I don’t need to question him! He is LORD and he’s got it ALL
