I am not ashamed Hebrews 2:5-13
- Shame – a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior
- Shame lies to us and makes us not address the issues at hand
- Shame brings guilt
- Most people have felt ashamed of one thing or another
- That has impacted how you behave, interact, – we are self-preserving people
- Hebrew 2:5-13 (Read) ESV
- God cares about man that he made his a little lower than angels, yet crowned him with glory and honor and put everything under his feet
- And given him full control of everything
- That due to sin, when Adam was kicked out – we no longer see everything that is subjected to us, but we see JESUS
- Vs;9: But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
- That through Jesus suffering, there is restoration of God original plan for man- a relationship
- Jesus is the foundation of salvation- the sanctification
- Jesus is not ASHAMED to call those who are sanctified (Who are made Holy through the blood of Jesus) brother and sisters
- Who am I?
- Who is man that you are mindful of him (Psalms 8:4)
- Have you ever taken a moment to think of that?
- That though God knows our heart, our desires and intention, He still loves us?
- Hebrew 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
- Yet He still calls us His friends
- John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants,[a] for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
- That He sent His son for us that He may restore relationship
- Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother or sister.
- John 1:12 – But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, – (Brothers and sisters of Jesus)
- Shame has kept lots of people from their true identity and hence has robed them on their inheritance
- The prodigal son
- There was a man with two sons. Youngest – demands to be independent
- He parties and just when he was about to be broke- There was a famine in the land
- He has to eat so he looked for a job and go the worst job as a Jew
- Cleaning swine is unacceptable in the Jewish county
- Sometime we go to such low places that we find ourselves in such places
- You have seen others do it and disgusted you- now you find yourself right there
- You try to get out and just when you think its may get better, it gets worse
- That a big issue, but I think the biggest issue is when we let shame keep us prisoner in such areas.
- My friend there is hope
- The prodigal son came to his senses and wondered, how many of my fathers servant are eating well and have all they need
- He said, I am going back home to be a servant
- I love that he made a speech
- But Jesus giving the parable said;
- Vs 20:24 So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
- I want to believe that everyone wants to come home but fear stops them
- What is my dad going to say/ friends/co-workers?
- What about my friends
- I feel like I need to keep it together, so that my friends can think I got it all together
- Though He knows us “He is not ashamed of us” Why are you still carrying the shame?
- Maybe you are Simon Peter and no so much like the prodigal son
- You didn’t ask for your inheritance
- And you stayed true to what you want
- You think you are ready in your heart and can defend Jesus
- Matthew 26:34-35 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.
- But life has a funny way of doing life
- You were coming to church and attending all events, then covid hit and now isolation drove you back to your old sin
- Folks its not too late, Jesus call you brother and sister
- Its ok to ask to come back home
- Simon Peter denied Jesus 3 time even though he had promised to defend Him with everything he had, his life included
- Yet Jesus doesn’t rebuke him after resurrection, but gives him a second chance to do God’s will
- He is not ashamed of you- even though He knows you heart.
- Fear
- Our hike to sheep lake
- I don’t like heights
- The path is narrow
- Yet, I had to keep going
- Simone wanted me to be brave, and I was but man, glad she didn’t check my heart rate

- We might be doing the same walk, but my struggles may be different
- Don’t be ashamed by comparing yourself to others
- Fear can be crippling – and its good to have healthy fear, however – fear will keep you from God’s promises
- Luke 18:38-40 – And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, what do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight
- The men tried to stop him – But he shouted even more
- Shout out of your issue
- But more so, have the courage to know that you are sick and that we all need Jesus
- Fear of people and their opinions would have kept him from healing
- In this story and the prodigal son story, there is a conscious effort to do something – to push past the lies of the enemy – to push past fear and keep your eyes on Jesus
- He is not ashamed of you- even though He knows you heart.
- Shout
- Romans 1:16-17 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[a] as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith

- Hebrews 2: 11-13 – For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source.[b] That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,[c] 12 saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” 13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”
