If you are righteous, what do you give Him? Or what does He receive from your hand?
Job 35:7
God is no respecter of persons, because He is so far above us that He cannot be influenced like us. Man can be swayed to treat others differently based upon what they can or cannot provide, treating the wicked wealthy man with respect but the humble and poor man with disregard, but the Lord does not.
Somewhere along the way, some in the church have strayed to this false belief that we provide the Lord with something of benefit to Him. We hold this false notion that God needs us, that we provide Him a benefit somehow, when the truth is that He could replace you in a heartbeat if you choose to walk in disobedience. In Jeremiah 18, the Lord shows the prophet that Israel is like clay in the potter’s hands, whether the clay is formed properly or is marred has no effect on the potter, he simply reshapes another vessel as he sees fit.
The instant the Lord speaks concerning a nation or kingdom, to destroy it or build it up, He can relent of the disaster if they repent or withhold His blessing if they disobey (Jer. 18:7-10). The Lord depends on us for nothing, but we are fully dependent on Him for everything, from the food we eat to the air we breathe. We fill no need for Him with our sacrifices or our offerings, because they are from Him and worthy because of Him.
When the Lord calls you to service, it’s because you need Him, not because He needs you. All that the Lord receives from us was first given by Him, it originates with Him and ends with Him. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Lord Almighty, King of Kings and Creator of all. What does He receive from your hand?
But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You.
II Chronicles 29:14
